Interview Tips

snow white, 6 June, 2008 at 07:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Morning

I have an interview this morning for an Admin Assistant post in a school, I am so so nervous I actually feel quite sick.

So has anyone got any tips to help me along in the interview or any tips to help me keep calm.

I've been thinking about one question they may ask and can't really think of a good answer. What are your weaknesses? How can you answer that without putting yourself down to much.

TIA

I've got an interview in 2 hours, so I'm equally nervous.

Tips that work for me are:

Take a few seconds before answering - not only does it give you time to think of an answer, but it makes you look intelligent and considering and not rushed.

If you can't do something say 'I'm afraid I don't have much experience in X, However, I'm willing to learn X, Y and Z and I believe my training in P and Q will help me.'

Take a copy of your CV, job description and job application into the interview. Refer to them, if you get stuck you can remind yourself just what you did and use it as a prompt. Smiley smile

The 'weakness' question - http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_reply_to_'What_are_your_strengths_and_weaknesses'_in_an_interview has some good ideas. Myself I go for the slightly cliche 'I'm pedantic'. Smiley smile

    Good luck!

Thanks for that, it has given me some good ideas. I think I will use the one 'not very confident speaking infront of groups of people' which I am not.

Mine is at 9.30, I haven't had an interview in over 5 years. I've also got an ICT and office management test, not sure what that entails, then there is an interview with a govenor, if I get through that then its another interview on Tuesday.

What job are you going for?

I'd recommend that you go armed with some questions yourself - it shows that you realise that this is a two-way process, and shows you have put some thought into getting the job.

Things like, 'what sort of working environment is it?', 'are there any training opportunities?' etc etc

I got my job. Smiley laugh Was more awkward as I was interviewed by 3 people I know quite well and have worked with closely before - and I've been temping in the job for the last week which has been interesting!
