Introducing myself..a newby

Daffodil2017, 13 November, 2015 at 16:25 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi,

I thought I would make a post introducing myself.

I got engaged in July and we are getting married in March 2017. Because we want to have a very simple, low budget wedding as we are paying for almost everything ourselves and don't have many savings yet, I am planning quite far ahead and being very organised, which is unusual for me! I'm so excited.

We hope to spend less than 4k all told, but we will see. Neither of us are really into very big traditional weddings so there are things we can happily do without. My most ambitious idea is to grow and arrange my own wedding flowers. We have an allotment which I've currently filled with spring bulbs for a practise run to see how it goes. The biggest and scariest spend will be on a photographer.

Our venue is booked already and we are going to have a peek at it set up for a wedding tomorrow morning.

M xx

Congratulations and welcome to hitched. It must be lovely to see your venue ready for a wedding. Good luck with the flowers.

I like your flowers idea! A few years ago I photographed a wedding where all the flowers came from the gardens in the area where the bride lived. Old ladies who knew her parents donated roses and all sorts. They were arranged in borrowed jugs and teapots on the tables.

Welcome and Congratulations! Love the flowers idea Smiley smile I'm an avid gardener myself but I would never be brave enough to grow my own, knowing my luck my roses would go weird a week before or something! What flowers are you planning on using?

We started by training to get do it on 4K budget...but then we decided we deserved a honeymoon so that went up to 6K....still quite small by some couples standards though!

Good luck with the planning Smiley smile

Must admit we're not counting our honeymoon in the wedding budget because it will probably be a while after the wedding so we can save up properly, rather than have one straight after the wedding but not be able to afford what we want.

The flowers I'm growing are (you guessed it) mainly different kinds of daffodils, and other spring bulbs which are generally just everywhere at that time of year so fingers crossed, we won't struggle too much. Daffodils are my favourite flower and meaningful to us and also I'm originally from Wales. I've also planted some hyacinths ... I'm leaning towards a yellow and purple theme and am going to buy some crocus bulbs next.

Because we are kind of having a budget rustic-y wedding and its in March, I'd prefer my flowers to just look more natural and hand picked, rather than elaborate bouquets of exotic flowers so I'm just going for the kinds that pop up in the garden Smiley smile
