Introductions

Fairey, 4 January, 2009 at 21:32 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 23

I am guessing there will be loads of people like me getting back on the bandwagon after Christmas (or far longer in my case!) and thought maybe an introduction thread would help (and those people with success stories can inspire us)

So my name is Fairey (don't be fooled by the low number of posts - had to change my username as having problems logging in), I need to lose about 2 stone and am aiming to be well on the way by the end of March. I guess I am doing a version of ELMM. Three years ago I got to my target weight doing this and stayed there for over two years.

However my job has rather overruled my life this year, I only managed to go to the gym 50 times in the whole year and my eating habits turned bad as I was so tired that I was craving junk! So as well as getting back to ELMM I have to focus on not letting my job rule my life so that I get a chance to have a life, eat healthily and exercise regulary again.

So over to you.......

I am Vicky, I am 24 (25 in march) and I have been overweight for all of my adult life. I went from 10 stone 7lbs to 14 stone 7 lbs within 3 years from aged 16-aged 19

I lost 2.5 stone in 4 months followign atkins at aged 19, but a couple of months after meeting my now husband I quit the diet, and gained 3 stone between then and 2 years later when we married. In the following 2 years 9 months up to Sep just gone I added another 3 stone to that, making my heaviest 18 stone 2 lbs

A friend of mine does WW so I decided to give it a go, as both my sister and sister in law followed WW and managed to loose and keep it off in the past.

I weighed 17 stone 12.5 lbs in my first meeting (I managed to loose the different whilst in centre parcs by moving my butt lol) and as of 30/12/08 I was 15 stone 13.5lbs, and I gained an keyring for loosing 10% of my bodyweight, and I hope to get my 2nd stone when I weigh in wednesday

My ultimate goal at the moment is to get to 10 stone 10lbs, which will take me to a BMI of 24 and hopefully a size 14 clothes size. If I am not comfortable with this I may choose to loose more then

My next goal is to get to 14 stone 3lbs (10% of my current weight) by 29/4/08 (my last weigh in before my holiday to the Dominican in May

    Hi,

I'm Bowski, I need to lose 3st 6lb ideally but will be aiming at 2 to start with. I'm starting Weight Watchers tomorrow and will be trying to excercise more but as I have ME I find excercise quite difficult especially in the winter when my joints get gold so I'm planning on starting slowly and gradually working my way up.

I can become a bit obesses with food when I'm dieting in as much as I tend to plan out how many poinyts I'll eat for the next few days, I don't think it's a good thing but it does keep me focused. I'm also using fitday to keep tabs on my weight loss as I can't afford to join weight watchers online resourse and fit day is free.

If I don't post on here for a while someone please PM me and keep me motivated as I have a family wedding in December that I want to look good for that plus last year I bought an antique wedding dress for when I get married (no date yet which is good) and it's too small, not sure what size it is as it doesn't say so I'd like at least try to get closer to fitting into it!

Hi I'm Steph and I'm 29 with the big 3 0 approaching very quickly. I have put weight on since I got diagnosed with ME just over a year ago and I desperately want to lose it. I have done SW in the past to lose weight and it really worked for me so I am going back to that plus I think I need the class weigh ins to keep me motivated plus my friend is going.

I have a lot to aim for with 2 weddings this year, one I am the bridesmaid, my 30th and, fingers crossed, my graduation so there is no way I want to feel like this when I go shopping for my outfits. Like Bowski exercise is difficult but I'm going to try swimming and keep walking as much as I can.

I need to lose at least a stone to get my BMI back to a healthy number then will see how I feel after that. At the moment that seems a big step.

    Hiya

I'm Roobarb, I have been overweight for years now, since 2001 although I did get down to a 14 for my wedding in 2003 with WW.

I am currently a 20 - 22 and about 6 st overweight. I have 2 young children, Matthew aged 2 years 9 months and 8 week old Jonathan so am only now in a position to start trying to lose weight post-pregnancy. I have been lucky that my weight hasn't caused me any health problems so far although I am aware with getting older (I will be 36 in May) that may change I've also been really lucky and had no problems getting pregnant, during pregnancy and have had easy deliveries but it has prevented me having the water birth I thought I wanted with Jonathan and I'm determined if we have a third baby, I want that choice.

That is a more long term aim however short term I'd like to be a 16 for going back to work in August-ish. I know what to do to eat healthily but I find it hard to stick at it. I also find exercise hard due to the children but will try and get out walking with the baby on days his brother is at his childminder and I also have a Davina DVD I will try and do that.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi, I'm Sophie and I'm a runner/ELMMer/maintainer. I'm currentlly round about my goal of a BMI of 22, although I'd prefer to be able to fit into some of my smaller size 10 jeans (Topshop is a killer!). I'm training for my first marathon in April with my lovely partner, but am struggling with niggling injuries, so we'll see.

Over the years in my battle against the sneaky 1 stone I tend to gain, I've tried just about every diet there is, and gone through the process of sorting out my relationship with my body and with food (although it's by no means perfect it is much improved!).

    Hi everyone,

I'm usually on BT (Hi Roobarb!) and have decided to keep an eye out on this board as well as I have some weight to lose.

I have been overweight in the past and previously lost nearly 6 stone to reach my target weight in 2004 just before my wedding.

Now, 4 years and a toddler later and I've put 3 stone back on again. (And i can't blame baby weight - it's pure overeating!)

So, I'm off back to Scottish Slimmers on Wednesday and hope to get back on track.

    Hello everyone!

My name is Katie & I thought if I post on here it'll motivate me to actually do something about it! I'm 30 in December and want to look my best for my party.

I went to dance school, and was extremely active when younger, and also a bit obsessed with food (comes with the territory). The smallest I was as an adult was about 6st 10lb (but I am well aware this wasn't healthy for me). Because of what I put myself through when younger I have sort of rebelled, and over the past few years said: sod it - I'll eat what I want now. Add this to lack of exercise, I'm now 11st 6lb, and at just 5' 2" that's not great. I've joined WW and want to get down to 9 stone.

I'm hoping to loose this weight for my friends wedding in May.

Best of luck to everyone in their goals & challenges. Will be on here lots more to get me motivated.

    xx

I'm Jo and I lost over 2 stone three years ago with WW taking me down to 9st 5 and a rather nippy little size 8. I maintained but have gone back up to 10st 5 which is the top of my Gold member weight.

I'm aiming to lose a stone going back to counting points and four sessions per week at the gym. I've got an AMAZING Personal Trainer called Amie who works me really hard twice a week and I also do Body Pump which I love.

I'm 40 at the end of April so my first goal is to get my arse to the top floor of Selfridges in Brum and pick out a designer dress to wear for dinner at a Michelin restaurant/hotel my H is taking me to for the weekend. And I want to be a comfy size 10 and not bordering a size 12 and looking for a designer dress with an invisibility cloak built in!

I can do this. I've done it before. I just need to dig deep. And I'm hoping now I've "found" the gym, once it's off, it'll STAY off.

Hi, my name is Debbie. I'd been overweight all my life. I mean ALL - I was taken to a dietician before I even started school ? At school I was hugely into sports so manage to keep things reasonably under control although I was always one of the fat kids (not by today's standards mind....?)

When I left school I got a sedentry job working shifts with a tea trolley that came round laden with crisps & chocolate 4 times a day! Being the greedy cow I am, I put on 3 stone in about 6 months-a year. I joined WW in 1999 weighing 13st 1. I lost almost 2 stone in about 6 months. Then gradually put it all back on again. I rejoined WW in June 2007 at 12st 11. I got to my initial goal weight of 10st 13 back in February last year. This made me "normal" for the first time in my life. I have then maintained within my goal range of +/- 5lbs ever since. I am slightly over at the mo but running & Davina will have that off in no time.

I am following WW in earnest again now though in a bit to lose the final stone that I want to shed. I'd like to have a BMI of 22/23 ish and have no idea what size that will make me (I was a 12/14 at 10 13).

I love running even though I'm still not very good and aim to do more of that this year and not let other stuff get in the way. I've tried probably every diet going but WW works for me along with exercising to tone up and feel better within myself.

I have several events going on this year - family wedding in May, dinner/dance thing in June, friend coming home from Australia in July, 30th birthday in August (mine!) so really want to nail it this time.

In a bid to inspire everyone else on here - I found it much easier maintaining than losing weight so stick with it!

I'm Baron, this time last year I was 23 stone with a BMI pushing 40 and now I'm 14 stone with a BMI of 23. I lost the weight through the revolutionary 'Eat Less, Move More' plan, which meant a strict regime of eating less and moving more. The plan also involved moving more and eating less.

This year I am training to run the London marathon.

    Hi Everyone!

Well I am finally trying to lose weight for my wedding which is in just under eight months time. I have always been overweight for as long as I can remember, so I am trying to break the habits of a lifetime! Wish me luck...

I have a bad attitude to food, using it as a treat, comforter etc. I'm also fantastic at making promises for the future...I've been through "I'll lose weight when I get engaged", "I'll lose weight when we set the date", I'll lose weight when I order the dress... well all have been and gone. We had an engagement shoot and I looked fat and horrible in all of pictures, and I don't want to look at my wedding pictures and think that. I read in a wedding magazine that you should motivate yourself by thinking "I have my whole life to eat cake, but only one day to look good in my wedding dress" so I'm trying to use that mantra.

I've got about five or six stone to lose probably but the wedding dress is ordered and can only be altered down two dress sizes so I am aiming for that, and continuing after the wedding.

H2B and I are awful for egging eachother on with big portions as well. I guess we just got together and felt so comfortable and happy together. Ironically the only time I ever went on a diet was at my slimmest when I probably had less than a stone to lose!

(Edited to take out dress because the picture was annoyingly mahoosive)

    Hi I'm lindsay

I'm 27 and at 12 stone am currently the heaviest I have ever been. I have never really had a weight problem before now. I've always been around a size 8 - 12. I wasn't particularly sporty or active but have always had busy jobs where i was on my feet all day and I walk every where as I dont drive.

however, 5 years ago I met my husband and we discovered our mutual appreciation of food and wine. The weight has been steadily creeping on and my activity levels have decreased too. Since the birth of my son in July I have ballooned.

So, it is time to take control back. I am doing WW online but only vaguely. I use the points as a guide and am trying to incorporate more exercise and activity into my life. I really want to eat well rather than just diet and am concentrating on replacing fat and sugary foods with those that have a higher nutritional benefit.

I would like to be around the 9stone mark, just under this would be ideal. If I could fit into size 8 jeans again I'd be over the moon but I'd be very very happy with a size 10.

    Hi I'm Maxiemax,

I got down to my goal last year, which was to be the weight I was when i got married (9stone 10lbs) - I am nearly 5' 8" tall. Since then I have lost another stone but after the Christmas break I am back up to 9 stone 2lbs, I would quite like to get back under 9 stone but am not obsessing about it, I am a size 8/10 which is fine by me.

It is true though that (for me) being slim feels way better than any food ever did as I ate it!

    Welcome to WL everyone

I'm Mrs M, currently seen keeping everyone in check on the monthly challenge thread. When I met my H 12 years ago I'd just completed my first ever diet and was a tiny 8st 3 and wearing kids clothes ?. The weight gradually went on over the years and then in 2003 I became pregnant with my first child. I went on to have another 2 (gap from 1-3 only 2yrs 8 months) and didn't really have chance to loose any weight gained with each baby. I had started to loose weight until Feb 2007 when my mum died suddenly. After the initial shock and not eating I threw myself into baking and eating lots of yummy foods.

At the end of May 2008 weighing 14 stone 3 and hating myself I was inspired by our very own wl guru Barongreenback. I was determined to follow his fab ELMM plan and hopefully have a normal BMI by Christmas.

My final weigh in before christmas I'd lost 4.5 stone and by bmi was normal.

I've since gone on to gain a ew lb over christmas so my bmi is overweight again but I aim to be back on track by the end of the month and ideally I'd like to shift about another stone

Hi I'm JenB and attended my first weightwatchers meeting last night! I have 2 boys aged 3+ and 11 weeks. Since I had my first son, the weight has gradually crept on and knowing I was going to have another baby has made me complacent. But now he is here, I have to look frankly at my weight gain and realise I can't get into clothes I had after my first son was born.

I have hugely overindulged over xmas and I reckon 1/2 a stone is due to that.

I want to get back to pre-1st pregnancy weight which means losing just under 2 stone.

I am going to a wedding at the end of this month and while I fit the dress I am wearing, it is not very comfortable, so that's my first goal. Next is to get into my summer things from 2007.

Hi, I'm Bec ?. I'm 24, and getting married in September. I'm doing WW combined with actually getting off my a**e and excercising!

I lost 2 1/2 stone in 6 months with WW about 3 and a half years ago,. Then thought I could eat anything I wanted, and so put on a massive 4 1/2 stone in that time and now I'm a size 20 instead of the 14/16 I desperately want to be for the wedding.

So aiming for a 4 stone loss for this year......I'm fed up of being the fat one in the family, and I want to look and feel better about myself as my weight is starting to really effect my mental health, let alone what its doing to my general health.

Aiming for half a stone a month loss, so will hopefully get close to goal for my wedding. xx

    Hi

    I'm Kate.

I've been a serial dieter all my life. You name it I;ve tried it and most likely have the book.

The last one was Cabridge diet.

But now I've had it with diets.

I have a very unhealthy relationship with food and since I gave up smoking 16 mths ago I swapped one addiction for another.

I now plan to ditch the diet and do a version of ELMM.

And I want to build a healthy relationship with my body and food.

I want another child but won't consider TTC till the weight goes

    Hi, I'm Evy.

For all of my life I've been very lucky to have never really needed to care or watch my weight and what I eat.

I stopped smoking and put on 3stone! After 18months I couldn't cope with the extra weight. I struggled to comprehend what to do about it. I've never need to diet before and thought it would just come off eventually. Well it didnt and unfortunatley I began to smoke again.

I'm 5ft 2in and weigh 11st 4lb. I feel like a whale turning in bed at night, and een when I was pregnant the heaviest I weighed was 10st 8lb.

This year, I'm walking two miles every day (quickly) with a friend, and I'm having 250 cals for breakfast, 250 for lunch, 500 for evening meal, and 250 for treats. I feel that by using the calories sensibly, I am eating more than I can cope with and feel really full after each meal. It's surprising how much food you can get for 500cals if you pile on the vegetables!!

I'm using my 250 treats for low fat crisps and or a small piece of chocolate. I feel ready to tackle the extra weight this year as I'll be 50 in the summer ?

I hope we can all encourage one another and I'm looking forward to having "diet buddies" here on Weight loss. BGB from OT reminded me about this forum, doh! Good luck to us all, hopefully we will all reach our target weight this year ?

    Hi, I'm Bumbleebee

I think I have deluded myself about how overweight I am but my sister got married at the end of last year and I look horrific in the photos and a friend has just posted some pictures on FB of NYE and I feel sick just looking at them.

I am massively overweight, about 19 stone, and i'm currently a size 20-22 and would love to get down to a size 12-14. I started "healthy eating" on Monday and have done well so far even though i'm battling a horrendous cold and I feel incredibly rough. My main problem is portion size but my H also has a lot of weight to lose so i'm either cooking smaller amounts of food or batch cooking and serving smaller portions and freezing the rest for another time.

I've bought Davina's DVD and will start doing that once I feel better and i'm determined that H and I are going to do some excercise, even if its just a walk. The thought of going to a gym fills with me dread but hopefully once I lose some weight I might feel more confident and manage to join one!

A friend of mine has just lost 60lbs on WW and looks fantastic, I am slightly jealous and it has spurred me on and I am determined to do this. I'm hoping that through contributing to this board I can succeed.

I just wanted to wish everyone luck with their healthy eating plans. You've all got fab reasons to do it, and when you doubt yourself come back to this thread and remind yourself of why you are eating healthily.

I'm in need of loosing lots of weight, I'm back at slimming world as i did ok on it last year. I'm feeling really positive at the moment, I;ve got a friends wedding in August so I'd like to lose some for that but mainly I'd like to lose some so I feel more confident about myself. Part of my motivation is that we're really really skint at the moment and if I lose some weight i'll be abel to fit back in to my old clothes rather than buying new stuff. Sad hey!

    ?

I'm Mel, I'm 28 and I've been overweight since my final year at uni. I gained 4 stones in 3 months whilst writing my dissertation and sitting my finals, and continued to gain for a couple of years after, peaking at 16 stones 3lbs.

I tried and failed on so many diets: Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, Herbalife, Detox Slim-Bio (the one Carol Vorderman did), I even went on Orlistat at one point but couldn't deal with the hideous side effects. Part of the reason I struggled was that I am very limited in what I can eat, from a combination of medical issues and fussiness.

Finally a colleague and I joined a local Slimming World class together and I finally found a diet I could stick to without being hungry. I lost just over 2 stones very easily, then a further 4 stones in 6.5 months in the run up to my wedding last August. I reached my target weight of 10 stones 1lb on the Tuesday before my wedding. I'd gone from a size 18 to a size 10.

Sadly, my father passed away 11 days after the wedding. The weeks living with Mum and eating her delicious but old fashioned, stodgy cooking whilst I sorted out the estate, added to the freedom I had allowed myself on honeymoon, led to me gaining a stone by the middle of September. Once I returned home I went straight back to Slimming World, but couldn't really find my focus again and just stayed the same between September and Christmas. I then gained 7lbs over the Christmas and New Year period.

So now here I am, back on track and ready to lose 1 stone 6.5lbs to get back to target. I'm determined to do it by Easter.
