Invitation printing & save the date questions

jenny18/11/11, 4 December, 2010 at 22:33 Posted on Planning 0 11

I'm starting to look at options for our invitations, and at the moment I think we're going to go with the option of ordering some blank pocketfold style invites and printing them ourselves. However, we do not have a printer at present, and I was wondering if those of you who have done you own invites have done them on a normal laserjet printer? I just ask because I tried printing one out at work yesterday, and the lettering had faded in places by the time I got home. Not sure if it has just rubbed off as it has just been shoved in my handbag, or if it's a problem with either the printer or the paper itself?

Also, we haven't quite decided on whether to have save the dates yet, but I guess we probably should as we are marrying on a Friday. Just wondering if those of you who have had them matched them to your invites? Is it okay to have something in a completely different style/colour, or will this just confuse people? We don't exactly have a theme or colour scheme, so I'm unsure what to do at the moment. Also, should the style of the evening invites match the day ones?

Apologies for asking so many questions - have tried to look around for some advice on this but couldn't really find anything relevant or helpful.

The paper has a metallic finish to it - don't know if that makes a difference.

Just had a quick look on the website but cannot find any mention of wether they are suitable for inkjet or laserjet - think I'll drop them an e-mail to ask. Thanks for your help Jelly.

    Hi,

With our save the dates, we have ordered magnets from vistaprint, and then we bought some plain white card, to put as in insert in our christmas cards to attach the magnets to. Weve printed on the insert using our normal inkjet printer, and they have come out fine

    Hope that helps!

When I ordered my Save the Dates I wasn't 100% sure of the colour scheme I was going for and as I was sending them out very early - October (for August next year) I didn't really think it was an issue.

    I ordered magnets from

Can't help with invites I'm afraid - not being creative am just going to order mine.

Can't help with the printing i'm afraid but thought i'd say, we didn't have a theme in mind when we send the Save the dates and so ours don't match the rest of our stationery.

They are in the right colour - red, but don't incorporate our roses theme like everything else does.

    Hi

Make sure the toner is full before you start printing as that will make a huge difference to the print. Laser jets work best for Pearlescent card as inkjets tend to smear quite a bit even after they have been left to dry for quite some time so that shouldnt be a problem.

As for Save The Dates, they certainly don't have to match the rest of your stationery as usually you won't have chosen a theme or colour scheme at this point. A lot of brides that come to me are looking for something quirky. you can get all sorts of styles such as postcards, fridge magnets, keyrings, anything goes when it comes to Save The Dates. Check out my website if you are looking for inspiration. The calendars are a huge hit.

As for the rest of your stationery, a lot of people are on a budget these days so I advise, especially if they want the more expensive Pocket Folds to keep these for the Day guests and then have a different style (maybe an A6/A5 single fold) for the evening guests but in the same design. That works well.

Hope that helps. If you need any more advice, just shout ?

    Nat

Cant help with the printer im afraid! also we didnt do STDs as we did it all in a year and everyone knows the date!

our day invites are different to our evening invites though, our day ones are simple/classy while our evening ones are more fun! we figured those who get one wont get the other so id didnt matter!

Thanks for the advice ladies - I've e-mailed the company I ordered from to see what printer they recommend, and I'll make sure I've got a full toner before I try my next attempt at printing them to see if that makes a difference.

Nat - have just had a look at your website and you have some very pretty designs - i may well be in tocu hregarding the STDs.

That's one of the reasons I was considering it - I figure people are only going to see one or the other, and it gives us an excuse to go for two different styles if we want.
