Invitations Inspirations.....flashes welcome

BrideCummins14, 13 November, 2013 at 14:51 Posted on Planning 0 24

Ladies, I had a meeting last night with someone who designs wedding invitations and I wasn't overly keen on any of them. I'm not sure if it was because they were dated or if I just don't really care much about invitations.

My thinking is though that when you receive an invite it sets the scene!

Can anyone help inspire me, add some flashes maybe or recommend who you have used.

Thanks

    These are mine...

I know they aren't to everyone's taste but I am really pleased with them ;-)

I designed them myself using Microsoft Publisher and my OH got them printed out for free at work [he works at a printers]!

Wow they're great, wouldn't really go with our style of wedding but can't believe you made those yourself. I might have to have a play around with that software!

We are having these from Debenhams. It took us ages to find ones which weren't covered in lace, diamantes, butterflies or pearls. Nothing worng with any of those things but not me at all! This was the only one OH and I thought was OK. By this point I was so sick of looking I just ordered them. Not the best attitude but never mind. I really like them now and the few RSVPs we've had so far said how nice they are.

Miss Pickle and Rosco.....they're great! We're probably going to go down the lace and pearl avenue, hand made all going to plan lol! I agree though with OP that the invitation sets the scene so continue to shop around until you find something you're happy with! xx

There are lots of lovely stationery companies on here that can help. I'm sure they'll all comment at some point tonight.

But please feel free to take a peek at my work in my links below.

These are ours. I know they will not be everyone's taste or style, but I am really pleased with them. We wanted something to reflect our the feel of our day, and nothing too girly! I have made these inserts for extra information also.

Haven't got any pictures I can share yet, but if you've already decided on a theme, I'd really play with that!

we have a Japanese theme for our wedding, and have designed a template to look like a holiday brochure Smiley xd

completely agree that they give guests a feeling of what type of wedding they're in for, as well as allowing you guys to show off your personality a bit~

I've made pocketfolds - this is just the first practice really but it will give you an idea! The patterned card is from one of those big pads with loads of different patterns in so they'll all be slightly different. The design on the front might well be changing again yet.

These are ours (OoC and invitation minus the wording) - homemade and designed to reflect our 'winter glam' theme - apologies if pics are enormous and round the wrong way!

Where did you get all the materials to make these? Maybe I should make my own - has it worked out a lot cheaper?

It has taken me ages to find something I liked as all the commercial stuff out there is not really us. Did think about using running numbers as we run marathons but wasn't grabbing me visually so we are sending everyone an invitation via a 7 inch single which will have a personal meaning to the guest or be wedding themed. We will design our own covers and stickers based around our colours. Am frantically bidding on EBay for relevant singles but really excited about it as we it is so perfect for us. We are thinking about having place names on records too and ideally would like to have the ability for guests to bring their personally chosen single up to the DJ to be played at the reception

These are our STD's. Invites haven't been done yet but you get the idea. It took me aaaaaages to decide on a font and the stripe is something that is used throughout the stationary and decor. We didn't want anything spangly or unoriginal. Simple and elegant was key. I was worried they are a bit girlie but OH says he likes them - even if it's not what he would design!

There will be a magnet on the back to stick to the fridge.

It did work out quite a lot cheaper actually! I was going to buy pocket fold cards and make my own but they weren't that cheap. Instead I bought a pack of 50 plain white 6" x 6" cards with envelopes for £6, and a pad of patterned card for £15:

They do the patterned papers in places like Hobbycraft and online and there's loads of choice in colours etc. I already had some white A4 card and picked up some double sided sellotape - the ribbon was really cheap too and the heart shaped punch was just a few quid. I also got some extra envelopes for the RSVPs. I just made the pockets out of the patterned card which I think adds something to it anyway!

All in all it cost me probably around £30 at the most, and I could get 50 invites out of them (if I needed that many!)

Thanks very much, that's nice! Smiley smile

We actually designed/made them ourselves. We got the pocketfold/cards from PDA card and craft. They have the option for double sided printing.

I stamped the words/names on, we designed stuff on the computer and printed it onto the cards and the image is hand drawn on. Worked out a lot cheaper and was quite straight forward really, apart from the printer chewing up some of the cards!!

I had a guestbook made for all the guest to sign. I did it at a small independent bookbinder on clerkenwell road in London. It's such a prescious thing to have. I really recommend it.
