Invite help - more people for wedding breakfast than church

bertiebertiebertie, 16 May, 2010 at 11:59 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hi ladies,

Would really appreciate any help / advice. Just wondering if anyone else is having more people for the wedding breakfast than for the church ceremony? Our church can only fit 110 but we have 160 coming to the wedding breakfast - how did you word your invitations? I was thinking of having the main invitation as for the drinks reception and wedding breakfast (beginning 3.30pm) and then adding an insert for those invited to the church for the 2pm ceremony.

What do you think - does that sound sensible?

Any ideas gratefully received!

Thank you.

We've got a similar issue. Getting married in a Reg Office that seats 40 people but having 50 to the breakfast. No matter what we did we just couldn't think a way round it. We made invites ourselves and worded them differently about being there for 2pm to welcome the coach back and join in the reception and photos etc. and not including the time to meet the bus to get there. So the opposite way to you.

And so far so good. Hope it works out for you x

A friend of mine sent an invite saying 'Following their recent marriage, xx and xy would like to invite to you a dinner reception followed by dancing on zz date.' Just be careful about how you word it, as I was invited to a 'reception' once and me and five of my friends went out for dinner first, assuming it was just an evening reception and dancing and when we arrived we discovered that they'd put on a full four course meal. Needless to say, we forced ourselves to eat the food because we felt so awful about the expense the bridal party had gone to and we struggled to do any dancing ?
