Invites

waggamama, 29 December, 2011 at 16:29 Posted on Planning 0 3

What did you put on yours? About to start mocking up ours (after we've seen the vicar on the 9th to confirm it) and was wondering what would be appropriate to put on it.

Also, another silly question; if you're married in a church, do you still have to 'give notice'?

Not sure about church notice, sorry.

On our invites we had a folded card with a double sided postcard type info insert. Pic of the samples below, not ours.

On the front it has our names and 'wedding invitation' or 'evening invitation'. Inside on the left it says the RSVP date, (we are including postcard RSVPs for people to fill out their names, different return dates for day and evening). On the right (main part of invite) for the wedding ones it has our names, 'would like to invite........' to their wedding at Heaton House farm on 5th Aug. Under that is says the ceremony start time and that dinner and reception will follow. Evening invites obviously say the reception venue and the evening start time. On the back is a small map of our venue's location as it is out in the middle of nowhere!

On the info inserts we have put down about parking, hotel and taxi info, asked about high chairs for kids, asked people to get there before ceremony, gift info and our contact details.

In church (CofE anyway) they read your Banns, which is essentially the same as giving notice - on 3 consecutive Sundays in the 3 months preceeding the wedding.

ETA: If you are getting married outside of your parish, you will need to arrange for them to be read in your parish church too. It costs about £35.

We had pocket fold invitations with the main invitation, a map, an RSVP card and a extra info card (booklet).

If you are getting married in a CofE church then the reading of the Banns replaces giving notice. Your vicar will be able to advise you on how/when it will be done.

We did simple folded invitations with an extra information sheet. On the invitation itself was the usual "request the pleasure of your company..." stuff, followed by the location, date and time of the ceremony and then "followed by a reception at..." At the bottom of the sheet we put RSVP details.

On the information sheet we then had more detailed information about locations, parking/transport, accommodation, gifts, contact numbers etc.

    Hi,

I'm making my invites, so on the front there is a purply ribbon down the side, with either 'wedding invitation' or 'evening invitation' on the front, surrounded by stuck on purple and silver gems.

Inside will be a stuck on piece of paper, on one side will be the menu (for day guests) and on the other side it will read:

    <Insert Name/s>

Vicky Louisa Elliott and Paul Mark Bates, together with their parents, request the pleasure of your company at their marriage at County Hall, Matlock on Saturday 28th July 2012 at <TIME>

The ceremony will be followed by a wedding breakfast and evening reception at the same venue.

Please RSVP to OUR ADDRESS by 25 March 2012
