Invites are coming along nicely!

Rocksteady, 24 November, 2016 at 19:45 Posted on Planning 0 9

We've been working on these invites for a loooong time, sourcing the right parchment paper and ribbon and wax sealing a million colours but finally we've cracked it. We are trying to get it as close to a medieval letter as possible. For wedding security reasons I can't share a pic of the inside (will do after the big day) but it's all medieval borders and writing etc :-) these are the outside of them. Spent ages youtubing how to fold paper like a letter, I think at one point I threw a strop and threatened just to email people with an invitation haha!

    LOVE these!

Will you be doing calligraphy for the envelopes?

Check out the postmans knock blog and tutorial and look for info on hand lettering.

Thats how I started and I've recently 'graduated' to a dip pen and real ink, although I used a double ended sharpie for my invitations as it's quicker lmao

They look great! Good luck with the calligraphy, I tried once and it's hard! It made me laugh though that you'd had a strop over your invites, totally sympathise!

Wow! They are stunning! I have invite envy big time! Can't wait to see the inside... though totally understand given what has happened why you aren't sharing it now!

Practice makes perfect with the calligraphy.... sadly I've never had the patience to progress further than vaguely legible handwriting if I try really hard!!

Sorry to hijack your post Rocksteady but what calligraphy sets do people use. I want one for Christmas so I can start handwriting practice for save the dates next year. Do you have any recommendations for starting out?

Check out "the postmans knock" website and blog. She has a great article on how to assemble a beginners calligraphy kit. I get my stuff from scribblers or blots pens Smiley smile

If you're after a more traditional style, my mum bought me a staedtler calligraphy fountain pen kit which is good Smiley smile I also recommend the "calligraphy bible" book to learn how to shape the letters Smiley smile

I had a quick look on that postman's knock site and looks very good and informative! I'm just trying to muster up the courage to go to The Range or similar to get some proper pens. Busy shops and young kids don't make for a good combo haha! We've just ordered our separate reception invites, we used ticket printing uk site, waiting for them to arrive but they look really good, like a gig ticket with a stub at the end with rsvp info. 200 only cost £30 with delivery. Nit seen them in the flesh yet but hoping for good things! :-)

Love them! You're so creative, I can't do calligraphy, it looked like a child's doodle when I tried.
