Is a Helicopter TOO much???

bringon2010, 3 December, 2009 at 15:04 Posted on Planning 0 21

Okey dokey...

I really want to surprise my fiance on the morning of the wedding by organising a helicopter to pick him up at the local airport (with his best man) take a 15 minute tour over Edinburgh and land in the gardens of the venue. This will cost £550.00 + VAT - but I would like it to be my wedding day gift to him...

Is it too much? Is it a bit flashy?? Should I buy him a good watch or something he can keep forever rather than giving him 30 minutes of feeling like James Bond which he can't keep?

I think MOST guys would like this - what do us girls think though???

Claire

If you can afford it and are happy to pay that amount, then do it ?

Does your venue have helipcopter landing space? Can you get him to the airport in the first place? (there's extra cost for the taxi too).

If you think he'll like it, then it's not too flashy, no.

Personally I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a helicopter but then everyone has different priorities. My H wouldn't have appreciated that gift at all but if your h2b would then it isn't money wasted.

I'd much rather give a gift that was personal and he could keep.

My OH would enjoy the ride, but would probably also consider it to be a waste of money, but as geordiebarbie says, if you can afford it and are happy to pay it then why not!?

It IS a bit steep - but I didn't have my "haggling head" on ;-) will get back to Captain Pricey and see what I can negotiate :-)

We're getting married and having the reception all at the same venue and the only transport costs we have so far are a double decker bus to ferry our evening guests in...

I think it's a shame as well that all of the attention is focused on the arrival of the bride - I think he deserves a special entrance too! (Just thinking about how psyched he'll be waiting for me at the alter all buzzed up after his wee surprise!)

(and he has me as his special, life long reminder of his special day!!!) :-)

I was going to say - make sure you have ushers there to get any guests outside to see him arrive - but usually the groom is the first one there. So, if you're after the big entrance, no-one will see it?

But, if you just want your OH to feel good and have a slight over Edinburgh, then why not...

Why not indeed Geordie Barbie!!! ;-)

And dont get me wrong, we're far from "minted" but I have some savings tucked away and would like to give him something he can brag to all his pals about - yes - I think he'll LOVE it - cheers ladies!!! :-)

Or - how about you have the 15 minute flight for the 2 of you? So you get collected and whisked off after the ceremony. You'll get some good pics then. And better still - you get to enjoy it too! ?

I'll be the first one there, hidden away in a wee turret somewhere in the castle - but very good point Geordie Barbie!

Could possibly have the ushers (in good weather) preventing people from entering the Castle until he "lands in" alternatively (bad weather) you can see the helicopter landing point in the grounds from the ceremony room .... :-)

(getting quite excited by the idea now!!!) :-)

Think I will leave the boys to thier toys, post ceremony is pretty busy and I don't REALLY want to leave my guests for too long to get all self indulgent...

Might even leave a card in the helicopter billing the trip as "his last flight of freedom" :-)

Do it!! It would be such a cool way to arrive. My brother wanted to do the same, but the nearest place to their venue that they could land a helicopter was the hotel it would have taken off from. Seemed a bit pointless to do a circular route and get a car to the venue anyway so they didn't bother. If your locations can accomodate it, I think it's a lovely idea.

My aunt and uncle had a helicopter when they left their reception. If I could afford to do it I would as you would remember something like that for a long time and it must be a great feeling when you take off. In our case our big splurge for the wedding reception is a magician, it's not even in the same league!

Do it! You wouldn't blink at spending £500 on a wedding dress, right? Why not give him a treat? But like everyone says, make sure you work it so people see him arrive. Either that or you should both leave in it.
