Is a marquee more hassle the week before the wedding?

kjflynn, 28 January, 2012 at 17:44 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi Everyone,

I'm a bit new to all this! My fiance and I have up until now been interested in having our reception in a 'Giant Hat' marquee type thing from 'beautiful world tents'. However we went to a wedding fayre at a hotel today and are now considering holding it there instead.

What is worrying us is that with a marquee wedding reception, will we have to co-ordinate everything in the run up to the wedding- ie flower deliveries, table decorations, etc, or do marquee companies deal with other agencies and co-ordinate things?

If anyone's used the beautiful world tent company before it would be great to hear from you! Or if anyone has used other marquee companies we'd be grateful to hear about your experiences!

Thanks!

Katie

    Hi,

We're using PapaKatas, and yes it's a bit DIY, but they look so pretty we're hoping we won't need too many flowers/table decorations. We have our venue the day before too, so hoping we can get a lot delivered and sorted then. Also, we're hoping to get them to do our catering too, in which case, they said they'll put things out on the table for us.

It depends what you want deep down. If you've had your heart set on the giant hats, it would be s shame to change it. I'm sure you could get lots of people to help you co-ordinate. Or, what about a wedding planner who is responsible for dressing the tent?

I admit I had to google 'giant hat marquee' as I had visions of cat-in-the-hat style!!! Had no idea it was a tipi.

We looked into having a marquee on our property, but it just seemed like a nightmare. We would have had to co-ordinate everything from the dance floor, tables, chairs, plates, glassware, napkins, floral displays, lighting, toilets & even picking from 10 different cutlery styles! It was just too much hastle & worked out much more expensive than having our wedding elsewhere.

Am not sure whether you meant you were having the marquee on a wedding site, or your own land? If its a venue, they would surely be co-ordinating everything. If, however, you are hiring a marqee, they certainly wont be organising all your other suppliers!

All our tables, chairs, dance floor, bar, lights, flooring etc are coming from PapaKata.

Even at a venue you may have to arrange all delivery and set up times so just go with what you want Smiley smile

To be perfectly honest it really depends on the companies you use! I'm assuming because you're thinking of using 'Beautiful World Tents' you're based in the south east, I would recommend getting a good catering company who will help arrange a lot of these things and should take the worry out of the whole lead up. I am using Cuisine Studios (http://www.cuisinestudio.co.uk/) they are wonderful, it is a small family run business and as well as the food being amazing they couldn't do more to help!

Personally I would always go with a marquee, it is much more versatile and no two weddings look the same!
