Is anyone double-barrelling their surname?

Shnarfy1, 24 July, 2010 at 16:48 Posted on Planning 0 16

We decided to both take double-barrelled surnames, unfortunately both of our surnames can be spelled in a multitude of ways so I will be forever having to spell them out to people!

Is anyone else double-barrelling??

God no!!! I've been waiting to get rid of my name for ages as it's a nightmare to pronounce and spell. But nothing against people who do x

Mine would be Dicken-Steele or Steele-Dicken so if we did but they would sound really wrong so no I won't be.

Yes we will be! Our son already has both of our names (double barrelled) so me and my OH will both be chaging! We all want to be the same! x

NO! I can't wait to get rid of mine. At the mo it's Hollyoake. All I get is, is it like the programme, or when I was at school it was, are you related to the cricketer. Not only that but it would be too long. Hollyoake-Greatbatch / Greatbatch-Hollyoake.

I'm taking my husbands as I don't want my children (hopefully some in the future!) to have really long names! I teach a girl at school with a double barrelled first and second name and its quite a mouth full and the other kids really notice and take the mickey!

We were going to as I have children from a previous relationship who have my surname but as I know my H2B secretly hates the idea I have agreed to take his surname and be different to my kids.

I'm taking his surname - really don't like my maiden name so it will be good riddance! As others have said, some names sounds great double barrelled, and it's a good idea if there are kids involved.

Nope because mine is already double-barrelled so it would be far too long!! If we lived in France I'd consider keeping one of my names with his but I've had to spell it out for 10 years so I can't wait to get rid of it!!

I have having a double- barrelled name, because my maiden is unusaly and the only ones with it are my family and there is only 12 of us. so I am keeping it to in a way carry on the family name because there is only 2 boys that could carry on the name.

I will be! I already have a double barrelled name, but no one in the family uses it, we just use the second half. My dad had no sons and I thought it would be sad for the family name to disappear when my sister and I married, so I will take back the first half of the double barrel but add my OH's surname instead.
