Is anyone else at work but has nothing to do?

KB3, 22 December, 2008 at 10:25 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 27

<raises hand>

I've been in the office since 08.30 and the phone has rung twice. One was my manager telling me he won't be in today, the other was a wrong number. ?

It's gonig to be like this until the New Year, I can just tell. Thankfully I'm only in until midday Christmas Eve and I have Hitched to help pass the time.

My two step daughter's are in work with me today. They have set up shop in a meeting room, have internet access but are currently doing their homework. They are busier than me! ?

So, anyone else wishing away the hours until they can finish for Christmas?

I work as a secretary and there is NOTHING for us to do at the moment, so I'm really bored so I'm busy surfing the net and making lots of tea. There really is no point to us being in.

I suspect I'm going to have a very productive couple of days, because I'm doing a hellishly boring cataloguing/timecoding job, and the fact that I've got the office to myself means that I won't be interrupted anything like as often as I was last week. Which isn't a complaint - believe me, I welcomed the interruptions!

Actually, this is a major reason why I've come in in the first place - most of my colleagues have taken today and tomorrow off, but I want to get this job off my back before Christmas, and this is my best chance.

I've been in since 7am and so far I've drunk coffee, eaten a sausage and left a shitty note for my colleague.

    I'm so bored!

I have nothing to do but that is normal. For 2 months out of every 3 I sit here gazing into space.

We need a good debate to keep us all awake.... any suggestions?

    I'm not alone then!

I've just spent the last 5 minutes debating with eldest SD about why she should be King of England. ?

I've got lots to do, but I'm not doing it. I can't get motivated. There was so much Christmassy stuff on the TV and radio over the weekend, it was a real shock to wake up this morning and have to get up to come to work - I felt it should be Christmas already.

I'm in on my own at work, partly as an excuse not to have to travel to my parents for Christmas, and partly to get stuff done as it is quiet, and I like the time to be productive and get ready for the new year (but mainly becuase I've got no annual leave left!)

I am working from home today and tomorrow, but with the small amount of work I've been given, I could get done by lunchtime today if I wanted. Which is why I'm spreading it out by hitching!

Definitely think we need a good debate...

That's exactly how I felt this morning, after watching that comedy thing about Santa Clause competitions last night it really felt as thought i ought to have packed up work for Christmas by now....getting up and coming in this morning really sucked.

I'm working today and tomorrow. I start a new job on 5th so I have no motivation to do anything. I've been stuffing envelopes and once I've taken them to the post office I will have nothing to do. I fee. pretty lousy so I'm thinking of going home to bed.

I'm in work and really busy!

Not doing my usual work but trying to get rid of 13 years worth of acquired junk. We're moving to a different office in the first week of January with very little storage space. Our poor shreader is about to give up the ghost.

I'm a conveyancer. Got my one and only completion finished this morning at 10 am and have done my dictation. Just got back from lunch and will try and make the rest of my work last all day. Its been quiet for weeks although Friday was manic partly due to lack of staff.

Roll on 6pm its our xmas doo then we are in work in the morning until 1pm!!!! What's the point?

We are also in 29th, 30th and 31st but no-one else is open. Idiots that's what we are.

I guess the difference is that I work for a Wintersports insurance broker so this is our main busy season at the min!

Well that wasted a few hours. I took the kids to the post office (woohoo) then we braved Primark Oxford Street (bigger woohoo) then even more brave we ventured into the Disney Store! I'm back at my desk, safe & sound, and the kids are eating some lunch.

Sadly I've got things to do but had to brave Oxford Street for lunch.

It's a jungle out there isn't it? H walked past the back of Selfridges earlier and said people are queuing to get in to the car park and it was causing chaos up that end.

It is really busy Clare, I thought last week was bad enough!

I don't mind not having work to do as such, it's just the phone's aren't even ringing so there is a deathly silence looming over the office.

Not in work this year, but I remember that I was this time last year and had nothing to do. I had finished all of my work by 10am, including the mail which didn't go until 2pm. I was incredibly bored. I would have been even worse this year as they had banned the internet for personal use even during lunch. I think I would have had to take a book in.
