Is anyone else planning things their oh doesn't know? :-)

MrsKHbutterfly, 2 June, 2014 at 21:30 Posted on Planning 0 18

Good evening,

I was chatting to my niece earlier about my planned 2 night mini moon in York after the wedding and had to remind her that oh doesn't know about it. I then realised there's a few other things he may not know about either...... Like the caricaturist I've booked (adding that to the "his surprises" list) and then little things like the bathroom baskets and flip flops baskets etc. things that I think (maybe from a female prospective) that the guests may appreciate but that he would raise an eyebrow at?!

is this really bad? Lol I know he won't be annoyed at the time, but would shake his head at me if I told him now lol :-/ xx

There's a few things I have in mind that I will be keeping schtum on partly because it's little bits and bobs that'll make him smile, and partly because it's little details that I think will make all the difference that he would of overlooked or turned his nose up at.

Thanks littlesnowflake, yes it's all innocent schtum-ness either for genuine surprise value or because it's just little things, I was just over thinking my actions I think!! Plus right back at the start of all the planning, he did specifically ask to not have to do much, and I really can't see him being interested in bathroom baskets lol!

    xx

I don't really see a problem with it. I don't have any surprises from my OH (except his gift and what my dress looks like).

I have ordered things without checking with him but have told him after, luckily he has liked all my ideas.

I think I was wobbling because I'm so used to telling him everything (and watching his eyes roll with boredom some times as I go on lol)

im just waiting for the day he goes in the back of my wardrobe (maybe to find narnia?!) and finds 20 pairs of flip flops! Lol :-) x

He did have a root through the 'wedding' box under the bed last night and said "what's this you've bought now?" That was before he started searching for the paper for our invites :/ *note to self must hide the shoes (well) when they arrive* haha!

I've added a whole extra speech that my OH doesn't know about. I've written it, from the perspective of our two dogs, talking about how we met and fell in love, and it's being read by my sister and her fiance, whilst wearing dog ears. OH gets super emotional over the talking dogs in Beverley Hills Chihuahua, so I know she'll love this!

I've booked a magician to perform during the wedding breakfast to surprise OH. We saw him at a friend's wedding and he said at the time that he was so good, he'd love him at ours but was too expensive so I can't wait to see his face, I've worked tons of overtime to pay for it!

I've also upgraded our seats on the honeymoon flights ?

I think there's two sides to this - one which is about nice surprises for OH, the other - things to do with the wedding that you can say - "oh I told you about this ages ago - you must have forgotten" lol.

I'm planning somelittle bits for OH - got him a fab watch the other day - now hidden away, and will be getting him some other little gifts for the day.

In terms of wedding planning, I can't really think of anything that I haven't discussed with him, perhaps not always before, but certainly when they arrive, like the mirror plates, crystal candelabras, oh and he received a text picture of all the flowers I bought on impulse. Served him right for being on a stag do in Amsterdam lol. I tend to plan and come up with the ideas to be fair then we'll chat and agree what we both want. I want a bit more flowery/romantic/vintagewhereas he'd just have plain white tablecloths and cutlery lol.

Both been equally involved in all the big stuff though so generally, I don't feel I need to not tell him everything as he's being surprisingly wonderful with it all and pretty much happy with everything I'm coming up with. Hope it continues lol. Smiley smile.

I haven't got any big stuff, just a few little gifts on the day. I did want to get him some shoes but couldn't work out how these would be a surprise so have settled with just saying I'll treat him to the ones he wants.

I also toyed with booking a campervan as he is big VW fan but I couldn't fine one that was available on the day and as we are staying at the venue the night before and it's all in one place in reality it would just be a very expensive photo opportunity!

I keep trying to think of things but so far no bright ideas!

There's probably loads my oh doesn't know - not because they're a surprise, just because he doesn't listen! He's so laid back about it all he's horizontal Smiley smile

As well as buying him Reading Fesitval tickets as his gift, I've arranged for one of the tiers of our cake to be angel cake, his absolute fav! He desperately wanted an angel cake tier so I told him our cake maker couldnt do it, and arranged it all without him knowing

Hopefully it makes him smile when we cut the cake!!

I have planned a few surprises my H2B doesn't know about, although to be honest I have planned most of the wedding on my own and he doesn't even want to come up to the venue the day before the wedding as he wants it all to be a surprise for him. I'm not sure if that's juts an excuse for him to get out of doing the last minute bits though lol!

So far, I have only planned his presents (boudoir shoot and a leather bound journal that I am going to fill with love letters etc). As for wedding suprises, nothing yet as he knows everything, but I am sure I will think of something!! Hehe!

I've been booked several times as a surprise. I am doing one later this year where I will be teaching the groom to perform a trick to the guests.

Yes I am, a few months ago played FMIL the song for my father daughter dance (I loved her first) and she cried and said it was beautiful. Turned to OH and asked if she gets a Moyer son dance as she brought him up as a single parent he was horrible and shot the sea down instantly. Now I know why my OH did that, if he could et out if the first dance he would but once he's had a few drinks he's more then happy to be the centre of attention so with that in mind Iv gone behind his back and let his mum pick a song (my wish) and they will dance after my dad and myself. He won't know until it's happening otherwise he may contact the dj and cancel the song! But I know for sure in the moment and after a few drinks he'll be well up for it!

It's made his mum really happy, and to give her that one dance with him meant the world to me.

So far I've got him some things for the morning, planning on getting him Ghostbusters cufflinks, have a wooden aeroplane to use as part of the decoration, I'm going to hide a geocache for him in the grounds of our reception hotel and I am planning on getting him a Battenberg flavoured grooms cake...

I have a feeling our entire wedding will be a surprise to my OH! He isn't really that keen to be involved in planning so our usual discussions goes along the lines of:

Me: I have to book x this week, do you want to be involved?

OH: No, do what you want.

Me: OK, just in case, is there anything you really don't want me to do/buy/include?

OH: I don't want to wear pink, and don't spend too much.

I have told him several times that the main colour is sage green, with accents of purple and yellow, but every time he sees something weddingy he seems surprised at the colours!

I will be adding a few things that are specifically to surprise him, our cake topper being one of them (Its a wee custom made model of our pet piggy as a bridesmaid as he was gutted we couldn't have her at the wedding)

I'm also trying to think of a way to incorporate his love of motorbikes into the day but I haven't worked that one out yet.
