Hoping to once we decide on our first dance song!

We have too many songs we like and none seem to fit the feeling we want of the evening. Grrr! Though we are considering some Nat King Cole!

We've had basic dance lessons before so am hopeful it won't be too hard for us to pick up.

What's holding you back from having a simple routine?

My OH is not so great a dancer, lets say he is very good at uh...standing in one corner beer in hand. So I was thinking it might be odd for him to have a routine to dance and go with the swaying instead. Although when I've been to weddings, it's been a lovely surprise when people have something a little different to *shuffle* left *shuffle* right

It will be interesting to know what everyone else has done, then I'll decide.

    Hey mrsbear2b

my oh sounds the same as you and what you said is exactly what my mum suggested thats whats got me thinking she thinks we should surprise people because everyone will think all we will do is just stand and say.

im not sure how confident ill be at doing a routine xx

My OH is one of those tall lanky types, and sadly the taller they get the less coordination they have in the limbs! lol!

I suggested doing something choreographed to him and expected him to laugh at me, but he didnt! He thinks its a good idea! So we're doing Michael Buble's Everything. I think it'll be better than just shuffling as, for a first dance song, its quite fast!

Luckily my sisters best friend is a professional dancer so shes going to give us lessons! I was encouraged by last nights DDTB as to how well she could move in her dress!

Go for it, if you want to, I think it would go down really well!!

I'm really not sure how to to reply, but the concept is really cute and makes me smile ;-)

I don't see many of the men agreeing.

Hi anglefish. Do you also feel guilty on a night out when you're happily dancing away, and you turn to see Mr anglefish just standing there? He assures me he is very happy though, and I bet would be happy as larry to not dance at our wedding!

I'm not asking for much, just a few twirls nothing fancy. But definitely more than a shuffle.

My H2B was the one to suggest it. Not a "funny" choreographed dance but a proper one.

The song we have in mind at the moment is "Better Together" by Jack Johnson, played it to my mum the other day and she thinks it fits a Rumba!

We are hoping to have a choreographed dance, but i think our friends would be bemused if we just swayed considering we met learning to ballroom dance! I am trying to convince H2b that we should do a jive to umbrella by the baseballs.... originally we were going to go for a waltz but jive is our favourite!

We had 1 hour lesson last Sunday, it was great! That's all we'll have as we want to keep it simple but I would definitely recommend it!

We've been having dance lessons since March with the intention of building up my OH's confidence. We were then planning on having private lessons specifically for a first dance song nearer to the wedding. We've decided not to do a full blown choreographed routine but may pick a song that we can waltz or even cha cha cha to (Not sure if Hot Stuff is suitable for a first dance lol).

One thing for sure is we have found a new hobby together and are taking our first exam on Sunday. Never thought OH would ever agree to coming but he enjoys it as much as me ?

My OH was also the one to suggest dance lessons, but we haven't booked any just yet. Unlike some of you who have already posted here, I HATE HATE HATE dancing! I'm rubbish at it, and always feel terribly self conscious the odd time I do get roped into it. My OH is much better than me!

Don't know yet what type of dance we're going to do - problem is, we're going to take lessons to do some sort of "proper" dance rather than a "funny" choreographed one. I hate slushy songs though, and had originally wanted to go with a song for our first dance that was a bit different but I worry that if we do opt for a ballroom type dance we'll be restricted in our choice of song to something really schmaltzy (sp?).

I need dance lessons for both of us regardless of whether we do a lil shuffle along or a proper routine. So It's on my list of things to book!

This is something we both want to do. A simple routine however, so we don't feel too nervous on the day. We used to go to salsa classes a little while back, and thoroughly enjoyed them. Don't think that is suited to a first dance though, and I definitely couldn't do salsa in my dress!

I'm desperate to get h2b into some dance lessons as he is HOPELESS! Not that i'm much better. You'd think a musician would be able to find the beat in a song and at least shuffle/sway in time to it though!

We had our 2nd lesson last week! Absolutely brilliant....loved it!

We've started well in advance coz we can only get to the occasional lesson and we also wanted something a bit mad (our guests will expect nothing less from us!),,,so our dance teacher is chreographing a routine for us....

Its also a great way to spend some time with each other, both times we have come out giggling our heads off....and its our little secret too, no-one knows about it all!

TBH its been my favourite part of the planning so far, everything else has stressed me out!

    xx

I think this is something we're going to look at, H2B friend is a dance teacher and has been in loads of shows so we're hoping he will be able to help us out. It definately won't be a 'funny' dance or anything with loads of steps but something a bit more elaborate than rocking from side to side. We're having The Calling, Wherever you will go (the acoustic version) which starts quite slow but gets a bit more upbeat/rocky towards the end so i'm thinking a little drama at that point might be nice (runs off to remind herself how the last part of the song goes) x
