    Hello and welcome Smiley smile

Some will say it's never too early to start thinking about things, and particularly working out a budget and how much you can save up between you on top of what you already may have saved up.

At the moment, your best bet is to go round some wedding fairs and start thinking about the sort of day you want - you'll need to think about the type of wedding you both want (church or licensed venue/registry office), time of year (which may lend itself to colour scheme suggestions) but particularly you may want to look at avoiding bank holidays, major sporting events etc, and a rough idea of guest list as you may find some venues you like are too big or too small for what you have in mind.

Once you have picked a date and venue, usually the next thing you need to look at is a photographer as many do book up well in advance, and a registrar although in most cases you can't book more than a year or two in advance for that.

Dresses take a minimum of 6 months usually from ordering, but most collections change annually so if you see something now you like you probably won't get it new in 2 years time, for example.

The early planning is the most exciting bits, enjoy it before it turns into a "just hurry up already" Smiley smile

just out of curiosity, why do you suggest this?!

We deliberatly picked a BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND as we wanted our guests to have that extra day to do what they normally would do on a weekend (unfortunatly the blummin queeen has decided to move the bank hol now)

Hello and welcome. In principle, no not too early. However, I started planning with 2 years 4 months to go and after a year or so I stopped planning as otherwise I'd have burnt myself out and probably be sick of the whole thing by now! Certain things, like venue and photographer can usually be booked very early and it's a good idea to get these things secured. Rough numbers of guests are a good idea, although bear in mind how much can change in 3 years x

Congratulations! how long have you been engaged? Smiley smile

I agree with AJ that its really good to use the initial time to get ideas from wedding fairs and have a look at the vast amount of different styles you can pick for your wedding before getting into the specifics.

I agree with this! I was the most excited person on the earth when I got engaged and started planning, but I've chilled out a bit over the last few months as I want to make sure I have plenty of excitement left in the last months before the wedding. Though there can be a lot of details to sort, there's only so much you can do at any one time so it's nice to spread it out and with your timescale, you'll be able to have weeks where you can sit back and do as little or as much as you wish!

Hey! Welcome to the addictive world of Hitched!! Smiley smile

We have had a long engagement (five years by the time we get married next June)

The idea was to save up and plan but we spent the first 3 years not doing alot, We were put off as alot of companies don't look at really advance bookings as the prices rise but it is good to get an idea now and then you have more chance of a perfect day.

There is no reason why you can't start looking at colour schemes and themes!

Have fun at this stage and find out what you really want! Smiley smile x
