Is it a bit early??? :S

babybirdandmouse, 1 September, 2010 at 15:40 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi Fellow Brides-to be,

Isn't it so easy to get carried away??!!

I get married next summer and I'm just wondering if I am doing things too soon. The registers office is booked, as is the photographer, my wedding ring and the wedding cake is booked (or ordered, whatever the correct terms is!), I am awaiting the colour/ material swatches for my wedding dress, am in the process of booking the caterers for the reception and about one e-mail away from booking the celebrant for our Ibiza blessing.

I know there is an abundance of things on everyones to-do lists for their weddings but should I be holding off on certain things just because there is still a year to go yet? Smiley smile

Thanks girls x

I would say you've timed it about right to book things especially as you're going abroad too, if your wedding was 3 years away I'd be seriously telling you to wait...a helluva lot can happen in 2 years let alone 3!

I definitely dont think so. Much better to be organised! Booking things in plenty of time means you have a choice of who you go with. If you left it till 6 months to go you might have just settle for certain things rather than get a choice iykwim?

Well done you being so organised Smiley smile

    Thanks for the reassurance.

When I am talking to people about our wedding, they always say 'but you've got a year yet!' but booking early not only secures everything that we want instead of settling for second best because we didn't do it early enough, but also helps us financially as it gives a little longer to pay it all off especially as we want to pay for it all ourselves with no help from other places, i.e. loans or increased overdrafts etc.

It's not been too stressful either ... yet!! ?

No time like the present! Get all the big stuff booked and then all the smaller details can be fitted in around them!

From a stationers perspective though, if you are looking to get any stationery made, get that booked in sooner rather than later also.

No don't worry about it! Book what you want to book and enjoy your planning! It will come round before you know it.

Ignore anyone who tells you it's too soon - they're either not married, got married years ago or simply have too much cash/time on their hands! I've been planning since December 2008 and there is always still something you need to do, so don't worry about booking things now!

I'd say definitely look at catering next, and no harm in booking any other big things you need to budget for like flowers, transport etc - all the little bits will fall into place around this so you'll still have bits to do!

It's never too early for ibiza - i had several weddings in for 2012 before 2010 had even finished!

some things can wait, but if your day is not flexible then it's best to get in there early in case you're competing with other weddings on the same day.

of course it's more important on an island like this as there are a limited selection of venues and suppliers but i guess the same would apply in most places for certain aspects of a wedding.

feel free to give me a shout if you need any ibiza advice before you come.

Definitely your florist and your cake lady and cake topper lady! Next year is already mega busy for lots of wedding suppliers. I know already of one cake topper lady who is full for this year so never too early. Flowers are the same I'm afraid particularly if you want fresh flowers as most florists will only do one wedding per day. I'm already full for this year and busy for next so definitely not too soon!

I agree with Brenda this year has been unprecedented and I am really busy for this year next & even have bookings for 2013!

It is never too early to book or at least pay deposits to secure your date.

I think if you know what you want and are certain you wont change your mind about cake/photographer etc then go for it! then you can relax a bit more closer to the time. I couldnt book things that early because i know what i'm like, i'd have kept seeing ideas in magazines etc and hearing about different venues and changed my mind lol
