is it fairly easy to set up a little forum?

Like a mini hitched? Having got involved with several businesses now, we need the easiest way to communicate with each other. A forum or similar seems ideal - can you get them for cheapness and are they easy to get set up?

You don't have to set up your own. I don't have time to find it now, it's in WTP's email somewhere, but there's a site when you can set up a little community to all login & discuss on a forum, or share files etc.

Or had you thought about setting up a FB group, hidden, limited membership, and communicating that way?

Cheap as chips. Someone else hosting. Brill.

I've been invited to join loads recently t hat people seem to be setting up at the drop of a hat. They've all used proboards and of the couple I have actually joined, they seem to work OK from a user point of view (and judging from the people running them, they aren't that difficult to manage) I don't know what it is like from an forum owner point of view though.

I've a feeling it's free as they have adverts on them - ones generated by the text entered on the forum.

Have you looked at Forumer? https://www.tapatalk.com

I believe it's fairly easy to set up.

There's also the forums / message boards on www.bravenet.com that don't need to be hosted, or need any setup at all (apart from choosing what colour scheme you want ?). You can even pay a small amount of money to have the advertising removed, and various other sw@nky upgrades.

Try Nabble - free forum, choose your settings and colours, no advertising. They give you a chunk of code to copy and paste into your script so you can keep your own background, heading, frames etc. Here's one I made earlier Smiley winking http://www.nmsg-singapore.com/forum.htm

Another alternative is yahoo groups, which cost nothing and can be private.

Yuku isn't bad, and their customer service is remarkably good.

Listen here though, and I can't stress this enough.

There's nothing crapper looking than a 'forum' that isn't moderated and maintained well and regularly. You're better of without... Seriously.

Would a mail reflector work for what you want to do. (can't use qustion mark, keyboard on this machine is dodgy).

One of the arrangements where you send mail to an address and it goes to all 'members'.... Who can then thread replies and so forth....

Or, If you can wait till the end of the year Google Wave will sort it for you......

It is really likely to be used for bouncing ideas around, rather than chatting - just a convenient way of organising things. There will ulitmately be no more than 15 businesses involved, and I don't think it will be busy - just used for business communication.

I'm not sure what a mail reflector is, however I use something called Basecamp on another project, and I find it hard to keep track of the different threads. Plus I hate the endless emails.

I use Invision Power Board. Cost $149 and took about 2 hours to get up and running (and I am not a computer geek!) So far I love it.
