Is it Just me...

stephanieeff, 14 June, 2012 at 18:12 Posted on Planning 0 12

...or are the majority of clothes that are made for the lager chested ladies almost always fifties inspired? And am I the only one getting more riled up with the high street every shopping trip I take?

I know this isn't exactly a weddingy post, well, it is for me cos I've been looking for a dress for the evening do of my Bro's wedding next week, but I digress, don't get me wrong I do love fifties inspired stuff, but I'm sick of people pointing me towards polka dot skater style dresses, when I ask for outfit ideas. And just look at Kelly Brooks new range for New Look, 'retro' eesh. I tried a dip hem maxi dress on earlier which I LOVED, the size 14 would have fit perfect if it weren't for my stupid knockers! But Lo, they didn't make them in a bigger size, which brings me onto my next point.. I'd just love to be able to choose clothes based on the fact i like them rather than by if I can fit my boobs in them! Can't believe how much the high street STILL alienates people who require larger sizes. Sure places have the 'plus size' range but I don't find many of the items nice at all, They assume everyone bigger than a 16 wants to cover themselves up, and there is rarely anything thats 'on trend'. Personally I think self confidence levels would skyrocket if you were to walk into a shop and see a nice dress available in all sizes, rather than looking at all the nice clothes and realising they don't make them in your size. And in what way and age is a size 12 considered LARGE? Medium, people. URGH!!

Oh god I know this is rather self indulgent/ ranty/ abit pointless but I needed to vent! Or to hear that I'm not the only one that thinks this way! Lol

I have to say, I'm happy I have been blessed with a reasonable set of assests... however I was trying to look for a nice dress for my OH's brother's wedding a few weeks ago. I also found that everything was skater style so completely covers your chest (not good for larger chests) or have stupid mesh sections/chunks taken out of the side. I really wanted to try and find a cute summery dress with a v neck and swingy kinda skirt. Not asking for much really... am I?

Too late now anyway... their wedding has been and gone. Had to wear an old dress but at least it saved some pennies!

Good luck with your dress finding...

I'm another vote for Pepperberry dresses - I bought one a couple of years back for our friends' wedding, and it fitted really nicely.

If you're tall, I also find that when Long Tall Sally has the odd gem in, they're quite forgiving in the boob area. I have a tunic/dress type thing from them, and that also fits nicely.

I feel your pain, fellow busty gal! What I'd do without Bravissimo and Pepperberry, I have no idea.

With big boobs being such a huge part of Western culture's conception of beauty, why aren't there any clothes for those of us who have them?! I'm a size 10 or 12 if you don't count my 32FF frame, but in loads of shops I'm an XL because of it. Infuriating!

Another thing that annoys me is all the floaty, light, empire lined, structure-less clothes out there. I look heavily pregnant in all of those, simply because everything hangs off the boobs! It's so hard to find summer clothes that are structured but don't look like I'm trying to be a 50s pin up.

    Grrrr.

    I feel your pain - i'm a size 14/16 but a 32H.

Every trip to the high street is getting more and more stressful!

I feel your pain, I've spent the last few weeks searching everywhere and every shop for something for 2 weddings I have. My 36g boobs get in the way (literally) of everything I try... And no shops seem to bother in any nice clothes over size 14! Argh!!!! X

It's really funny that this has been mentioned. I was out for a shopping trip with my Mum yesterday and had the same problem with a lot of clothes. Fitted beautifully everywhere except around the boobage area. Its incredibly frustrating. I wouldn't say I have an ovely huge set of puppies and that is precisely what annoyed me most. It seemed to me that whoever made the clothes forgot to allow for our womanly assets. However, I DID get 2 pairs of shoes...and my bridal shoes, so not all was lost! ?

Going honeymoon clothes shopping next week - will definitely check our pepperberry and look out for further tips from you!

I'd swap you any day!!! I agree that size 12 stuff shouldn't really be labelled "large". Talk about giving people a complex.....

on the opposite end of the scale, it's exceptionally hard to get clothes that fit in the chest when you are somewhere between 36B / 38A. Shite one. Figure like a bodybuilder, I tell ya!
