Ok I'm watching it whilst an arseholder but it's utter tripe! I like abba as much as the next person but it's badly acted, badly directed and has no real plot, I don't care who her dad is or that her mum was a slag. I've let Mr B watch boxing as it's that crap. I've seen an hour and 20 mins of it...

Someone tell me why it's good!

R-A, give it a go. You just need to let it wash over you, I think.

(I watched it with my mother and we both ended up in floods over all the mother/daughter stuff ? It is extremely schmaltzy.)

I endured it on New Years Eve, at a friends house who doesnt drink and wont have it in the house - along with my mother who spent the whole time snoring and/or jerking awake.

I hated the movie and NYE wasnt much better.

MrsB and I were having tea in the gayest, campest tea shop in all Brighton (some feat) and talking about this bit, and we both welled up just recalling it ? We were so choked we were gulping, gesticulating and nodding frantically, with me dabbing my eyes with a paper napkin. Hopeless ?

This is the bit that had us going, I nearly peed myself. We had a troubled relationship when I was growing up and I honestly can't explain how much was let go over our shared hilarity over this part. My poor MIL was left slightly bemused by the tears of laughter.

The first time i watched it when it first came out i thought what utter tripe... story was line was crap, who dosent want to know who their father is!....erm CSA people!!! and most of the cant sing for toffee?

But i watched it again the other night (up with toothach and needed painkillers) and rather enjoyed it, i think once you see past the story and the not so great singing it was quite funny......maybe it was the painkillers though?

I bloody loved it. It's cheesy and cringy, but such good fun. I have it on DVD and watch it for a lift if I'm feeling blue. It just looks like they all had such fun making it - and the setting is gorgeous.

(And even Pierce Brosnan's singing couldn't put me off, he looked farking gorgeous.)

I thought it would have been ok if there had been no abba songs in it, they totally ruined the film.

I saw it with my sister & mother and the first 15 mins, my bum was winking like mad. Then the mad Greek extras starting popping up all over the place and the stupidity of it hits me and from then on, I found it utterly hysterical. Meryl's Winner Takes it All and Pierce's soppy song at the end made me cringe again, but all in all, pretty damn funny.

I've seen the stage show twice and really enjoyed it, but I didn't like the film. My husband liked it more than I did.

I love Moulin Rouge though. ?

Loved Moulin Rouge. Love MM too. The scenery is loooveelyy and they looked like they had a ball making the film. It is ridiculous, but so light-hearted, you can't help but like it - well, I did..... I even got used to PB's singing too - now that took some doing!?

I didn't see it at the cinema or on DVD but a friend took me to see it in the west end last week for my birthday, and I absolutely loved it. The daughter wasn't the most fantastic actress, but the mum was fab and I just loved all the Abba songs.

I think it probably needs to be watched with your tongue firmly in your cheek but I love it (I also love HSM though). The singing's not great (although Julie Walters is great by virtue of being bad IYSWIM), I really didn't warm to the young couple but I thought all the older actors were so funny. Also it just looks fabulous! I went to the cinema with a friend not expecting too much but had a great time and ended up getting it on DVD for Christmas.

I saw the stage show about 7 years ago and really loved it! Went to see it with a group of girlies and came out feeling all upbeat and buzzy. When I heard it was being made into a film I was beside myself with excitement (I know, I lead a dull life). I saw the film with my mum a week after I had given birth to my daughter and I admit I was probably still very hormonal but I cried practically all the way through. In fact I was really embarrassed and trying to hide it because everyone else seemd to be laughing and smiling and I was sobbing into my tissue ?

The bit when Meryl Streep sings "Slipping Through My Fingers" [:'(] In fact I had to go and buy the soundtrack just for that song as it isn't on the greatest hits album I have at home. Also I loved the scenery and the girliness of the whole film. It reminded me of all the girly holidays that I had been on in the past that I probably would never go on again (for various reasons) and I got really nostalgic and sentimental.

On the whole my friends and i agree that the stage show was much better, the film was ok but not as good as we'd hoped it would be. In fact I would like to go and see the stage show again just to see if it's as good as I remembered or if it's actually as bad as the film.
