Is it to early?

Lullabelle, 9 July, 2013 at 11:51 Posted on Planning 0 4

Me and hubby want to renew our vows in approx 3 years time for many reasons firstly because we really enjoyed having our 2 children at our big day and we now have another on the way and would love it for our new child to experience it, secondly my other half was unable to have any of his family at our wedding day which was such a shame and it would be fantastic for him to have them there a 2nd time around, Thirdly we were totally let down by our TOG and we have 300 C**P photos to remember our 1st wedding!!!

It will be my big 40 on 27th August 2016 (Saturday of the summer bank holiday) I have got it in to my head that this is the day I would like to do it, Is it too early to have a look at venues? As I have a few narrowed down and one I have fallen in love with and I would be gutted if I left it a while to find out that that date had gone as I would imagine its a fairly popular date for a summer wedding.

Also how do you negotiate prices with venues so far in advance as the latest dates with costs I can find are up to 2015 without a huge difference between now and 2015?

Sorry for the long post.

I look forward to your advice

It's never too early to book a venue so I would suggest to go ahead! Regarding negotiating, I would imagine it would be difficult as it's so far in advance and I'd be worried about price increases between now and then actually! What we did with our venue (now, we got married in Ireland so it may be different here) was that we met with a few we liked and, when we narrowed it down to 2, we went back to each venue and started haggling - using the other hotel as the bartering criteria! It worked for some things but not all and, because we had already decided the 'must have's' on the list for the venue, once we got them sorted, we went with the venue that met all of our essential criteria. We had really liked both venue and had been to weddings in both so the final things were stuff like free rooms & corkage - the meal price just so happened to be the same. We did out a spreadsheet of all the things we wanted in a hotel and used that to decide!

Never too early, especially for August Bank Holiday weekend! I would maybe try and get a preliminary booking that doesnt have to be confirmed until the 2016 prices are released (if theyre not already released they shouldn't have the 'but what if someone else wants it' issue, its far enough away that they will easily be able to fill the date if you cancelled due to cost) maybe try and work out a rough % increase between this year and next year and between next year and 2015, should give you at least a ROUGH idea...

Try and talk them into an 'early booking' discount too!

Wouldn't hurt to give them a ring and find out if it's possible.

It definitely doesn't hurt to give the places you are interested in a call and find out the situation. They may advise that they are not booking that far in advance, but they'll also probably offer to keep you up to date and let you know if there is any other interest in the day you've chosen.

We booked our venues in Oct 2012 for a Sept 2015 wedding, so getting on for the 3 year mark there! We wanted a specific date and knew they booked up very quickly for peak season weekends, so we got that sorted asap.

There are a couple of brides floating around on here who are planning 2016 weddings, 2 of whom are booked for 2016 because their venues were booked up until that point, if I recall correctly Smiley smile

    Best of luck with it!
