Is my wedding doomed before it's even booked?

spearsonbish, 30 April, 2009 at 10:03 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hello All,

I am new to this site in the fact that my partner and I have only just chosen a date! We have chosen 13th August 20011. We met on 13th August 2004 so the date seemed perfect. We have also chosen the colour green for our bridesmaids etc. I rang my beloved Grandma last night (She is my world, and has been a mother to me) and she has not only told me that getting married on the 13th is awful but also the colour green in very unlucky for a wedding!!!???

I know about the 13th and as we met on Friday 13th I see no problem. We have been together for 5 years and have a beautiful 7 month old little girl. But my question is do you think getting wed on the 13th together with the colour green be a curse before I even say I do???

Thank you for your time

?

I take it you mean 2011 - as I think you'll be long gone by 20011!!

Are you superstitious? If not, then go for it. I personally don't believe in all this Fri 13th nonsense, so I wouldn't be worried at all.

    However.

Is it going to upset your gran too much? If she means so much to you and you think it could cause problems then maybe you need to reconsider for her sake.

If the 13th is lucky for you then sod everyone else.

I know the older generation has a thing about green though. My grandad died last year, and it was put in the papers that dress was bright colours but no green because my gramp was so superstitious about it!

    Hi, welcome to hitched ?

I say go for it, it is only a superstition after all and if it's what you want then to hell with the old-fashioned rules ? You could always hire a chimney sweep to balance out the luck! But if you are superstitious then whatever you do don't look at the "myths" page of Hitched, you won't want to do anything!

Is your Grandma going to be particularly bothered about the date/colour scheme, or was it just a word of warning? I think superstitions are very much a thing in the mind. For example, my friend always saw herself as very superstitious and always did the usualy salute magpies, don't walk under ladders, etc., but recently she heard about the superstition of not crossing on the stairs, and all of a sudden it's become a big deal! She has crossed people on the stairs for the last 24 years and no hurt came of it, what's the problem now??!!

By the way, a list has been started for 2011 brides, if you add a post telling them your name and wedding date you can be added to the list - you'll be in good company ?

    Hi, and welcome ?

I don't believe in the whole friday 13th thing either, and i certainly don't think colours are bad luck!

If you want to get married on the 13th and have your bridesmaids wear green then do so, it's your wedding after all! ?

The saying is 'unlucky for some'......so that means it must be lucky for others! If you met your H2B on the 13th, I would presume you belong to the latter. As for green.....it represents peace and tranquility....and I've seen some beautiful bridesmaids dresses in green recently.

How about turning the two digits around and getting married on the 31st?

A nod to the date and a hug to Grandma!

Its apparently only unlucky for the BRIDE to WEAR green on her wedding day. BMs are okay!

We considered getting married on Friday 13th August next year but then another date at our favourite venue became available. I also consider 13 to be a lucky number. I was told about the green thing after I bought my car a few years ago but its actually been the most realible car I've owned.

If thats what you want then go for it. I think having it 13th will add to the memorableness (made up word!) of the day. Good luck with planning.

Isn't there something about genius' choose green? Or is that just related to cars?? Hmm... ?

I say you do what is going to make you happy but explain your reasons to your nan about why you have chosen the 13th.

You don't need to explain your choices to anyone. it's your wedding. and anyway, 13th aug 2011 isn't a friday, it's a saturday, so why should that be unlucky?

do what you want. i HATE HATE using this phrase, but.... your day, your way.
