Is stress causing these spots??

kate246, 1 July, 2012 at 21:27 Posted on Planning 0 7

Advice needed ☹️

I have never been a person that has suffered with spots but the last month my face is just breaking out in them!! I am getting quite stressed out about everything being perfect for the big day and thinking that maybe the stress is causing the spots!!!!

If any one can offer de-stressing techniques or how to get my clear skin back I would really appreciate it xx

I just started with spots in my twenties (didn't have many as a teen) but this is down to a hormone inbalance but get worse in stressful situations. I'm a teacher too so I've tried all sorts because I dont want to be spottier than the kids!

I can suggest what works for me...

I drink about 3 litres of water a day (granted I also pee for 3 hours a day too) but it helps keeps my skin clear

I take my mum up off when I get in the house after work if I'm not going back out

And get plenty of sunshine where you can. I work outside so this is quite easy for me and I dont burn easily (always wear suncream!) A friend of mine has dermititis and uses sunbeds which helps her.

When you go to bed have a pad at the side - I've only just started doing this but I sleep so much better if I think of something I write it down straight away so I dont worry about it. I honestly didn't think it would work sounds silly but it really does!

Perhaps a facial too? My skin therapist is much better than any doctors have been with advice! And often they're not that expensive but when it comes to spots especially on your face it may be worth seeking one out.

Hope this helps and try not to let it get you down as it only makes it worse!

I sadly have always suffered, but what keeps mine more under control is a good skin care routine (I really notice the difference if I am not following it), don't be afraid to moisturise! Also, drinking lots of water, but I find exercise can help too - something relaxing like yoga has helped.

Mine went mad with the stress, loads of spots. I started taking the workswithwater clear skin supplement and it cleared right up, 6 days to go and only have one mark on my face which is where I scratched myself last night when i was asleep lol

I'm following this with interest because I'm getting increasingly spotty and I want to do something about it, but I don't want to pay money for things that aren't worth it. I don't really look after my face though - I wash it just like the rest of me in the shower, but I don't moisturise/tone/cleanse etc ? The only make up I wear on a daily basis is mascara and I use face wipes to remove that. I'm not sure if it's skin care/supplements/diet that I should be changing, but my diet/water intake hasn't changed so I think these spots are stress-related - I'm sure I wasn't as spotty before we got engaged!

I'm a Liz Earle fan, and also use Dermologica for a change every now and then.

Ooh I know how you feel! I've recently changed contraceptive pill and it has played havoc with my skin. I have no spote on my face but they were all over my chest, my neck and back and as soon as one went another came up. I've changed back onto my old pill and they have settled down a bit but there are still loads on my back and they keep cropping up on my neck Smiley sad I'm going to see my GP on Friday about them cos they're getting me down and it really isn't going to look great with a strapless wedding dress!

I have heard good things about workswithwater but haven't tried it. I agree with the others about drinking lots of water as I've done this and they are a bit better and I've just started taking vitamin E to try and help! Good luck!

I had acne as a teen then had years of clear skin before developing cystic acne. I now get the odd spot, though they are massive (hence the cystic bit.

The doctor might give you antibiotics, a topical treatment or change your pill to Yasmin if you are on a pill. Hopefully whatever it is will help you.

Over the years I have become more serious about my skin care and I use Clinique 3 step which has improved the general appearence of my skin. I have less spots but this might not be to do with Clinique. What is good about the routine (which you could achieve with cheaper products) is:

Not drying the skin out with cleanser. If skin feels at all tight then it is too strong. Just because you have spots doesn't mean you need to bleach yout face.

Moisturising until your skin feels soft and plump. If your skin is oily use a light mosituriser, or a gel one, but still use it.

Exfoliating - don't do this everyday but 1-2 times a week. It will improve the texture of your skin and get rid of the rubbish that blogs pores.

And of course - don't touch your face, don't squeeze anything.

I hope that helps a bit - I don't have ideas for the stress element, hopefully you can attack this from both sides and get it under control.
