cotteesgirl, 30 September, 2009 at 15:25 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

..from barking at & chasing off family cats (who are twice as big as her but obviously are v.scared!). We have had our puppy for a week now and she is 12 wks old. TIA.

    I'm interested in this thread.

I've got an 11 month old Border Collie. We got him when he was 4 months old and didn't have a problem with him chasing our cats however just recently he chases them all the time and we can't seem to stop him!!

    Erm....hello.....cats and dogs......!!!!!

It's just because the dogs have an innate instinct to go for cats. Over time, as they live together they should learn to live with each other. The 12 week old pup is learning about the world around her and is exploring...and having a ball, so let her, the cat will eventually get pissed off enough to get her told and she will learn...don't worry. Same goes for you Daisy, if the cats and dog live together they should all eventually learn the pecking order in the house and settle down.

    Hope this helps

Thankyou Mel...now tell me how i stop the cats eating the goldfish? ?...

Seriously i was hoping they would all just be friends (fool!), or guessed the cats would have a bit of an upper hand from the start, im just worried about the cats running off and not coming back but fingers crossed it will sort itself out over time....she has her first puppy playschool tomorrow, she has a better social life than me! x

Hi cotteesgirl...to stop cats eating fish........add salt and vinegar!!! ?

Puppy playschool!! Bloody ace mate!! We should have done that we our 2 mental G.shepherd's!

I don't think your cats will run off....if they do, they would be back....they like creature comforts.

What breed is your baby girl?

    Thanks for fish advice ?

She was a wimp at puppy playschool, just stayed near my feet...its so funny to watch them though, there was a tiny little fearless dauschund there (spelling?) peeing and pooing everywhere but respect to her she was trying to get in with the larger pups play. Ah stella is a cross poodle westie, will try to get some pics on here at some point, cute as a button but i am biased!

Are your two still as wee as the profile picture, beautiful dogs, so intelligent too.

At around 10 months, a dogs testosterone level peaks. Maybe that has something to do with him getting worse?

    Hi cottees

No my 2 are all grown up now. Bella is nearly 5, she is short haired GS, she's very timid- very much a 'princess' and a total mummy's girl! My profile picture is of Benson at 10 weeks old. At 8 weeks old he weighed over 1 stone! He was the biggest pup in the litter and he is now 2 1/2 and weighs 71/2 stone! He is massive and a total wuss- he pretends to be 'hard' but he likes to come for cuddles and needs to know that he is loved , he actually sits on my knee and puts his paws on shoulders so that you have to put your arms around him so that he gets cuddles, he is daddy's boy though. I'll try to post a pic of them later if I can figure it out!

Puppy playschool sounds a hoot! I'm sure Stella will get used to it and start to play with others. It sounds like a great place to get puppies socialised with other dogs.

    Hi HuskyGirl,

Not been able to get on for a few days so sorry for late reply.

We had Bryce neutered last week so we are hoping (fingers-crossed) he might start to settle down in a few weeks!
