is there anything wrong with a UK honeymoon?

MrsBurton2015, 10 February, 2014 at 15:33 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 16

My OH and I have been thinking about a UK honeymoon to the lake district in a lovely lodge overlooking one of the lakes. Is there anything wrong with this? Ive had some opinons where people say honeymoons should be abroad. We have fallen in love with this lodge!

Opinions?

Nothing wrong with a honeymoon in the UK at all, the Lake District is lovely. A friend of mine went on honeymoon in Scotland and had a great time! They really wanted to relax and spend lots of quality time together which they got.

We are getting married and having a mini moon in the lake district as it is beautiful and far more "us" than most places abroad as we are very outdoorsy and love the UK countryside.

We are also planning to do a European roadtrip holiday at some point after the wedding which I guess we could call our honeymoon but I'm not that fussed about associating it with the wedding as such. It is just something we fancy doing as OH used to live in Europe and he loves driving there. We will probably do France, Spain, Itlay, Switzerland and Germany over a couple of weeks. Not exactly traditional lol and we won't plan it very much - when it is convenient for both of us (OH has own business) we will just pack and go.

I am not a sitting on the beach sort of person - would go crazy on any form of package beach based holiday with loads of other couples about. You have to do what feels right for you and your other half. Just because traditionally these days people go abroad does not mean that you have to, or should want to Smiley smile

That's what we're doing! We're trying to buy a property this year, so although we'd love to do somewhere exotic, we can't really afford to if we're prioritising a house! We were originally going to go on a minimoon this year, then a honeymoon next year when we were in a better financial position, but I just think that whatever we do next year will be so far removed from the wedding that it wont feel like a honeymoon. Besides, a minimoon abroad for a long weekend would cost just as much (if not more) than a 10 day break in England!

So... we've found a lovely little cottage in the Lake District!! All booked and deposit paid yesterday! Very excited!

Therefore, I obviously agree with the others - do whatever you want to do! Smiley smile

Absolutely nothing wrong with a UK honeymoon! Your honeymoon should be somewhere you both want to go. The idea is for you to spend some time alone together after the hustle and bustle of the wedding and a break before you start your new lives together as husband and wife. There are no rules as to where you go, when you go or what you do when you get there. We're not having one at all as we can't afford it but if we were, it would be in the UK. Never ever listen to anyone who tells you you're doing it wrong - its your wedding and your honeymoon x

We're planning on having our honeymoon on the Isle of Wight. OH absolutely loves it there and would happily move over if we could afford it so it makes sense for us to go there rather than abroad.

Agree with all thats been said above. Friends of ours went to Edinburgh for their honeymoon and had a great time.

Mr ddpunk and I went to Norfok Broads last summer for our holiday. It was amazing. I'm sure some people thought we were 30 years too young to be holidaying in Norfolk but we loved it, very relaxing! Lovely food in 'proper' pubs, long walks to the middle of nowhere,.. Heaven!

We are planning to have a "minimoon" in London straight after our wedding in september as we love the place - planning on a luxury hotel for a couple of days - so it's relaxing and somewhere we know. Then, next year, plan the "honeymoon" abroad somewhere we've never been before - we'd rather not have the stress of trying to organise that at the same time as the wedding.
