Is there much going on the week before?

far2calm, 19 January, 2012 at 08:24 Posted on Planning 0 21

So this is a bit of a rant, and also looking for bit information.

We have at least 7 weddings this year, including ours and there is at least 1 a month from May till September. My hen do is about 5/6 weeks before and OH is 3 weeks before the wedding. We have a wedding 2 weeks before ours but lucky nothing the weekend before the wedding. Until last night…OH’s mate is looking to have his stag do that weekend, now I’m not for one minute thinking he should look at another date. I just think my OH should not commit and say he’s going as surely they will be lots going on the week before our Wedding.

So just wondering if OM’s or anyone out there can kind of give me an idea how busy we will be the week before the Wedding. We are having a marquee at OH’s home, so therefore lots more to do, such as making the grounds look presentable, painting etc. (Just a note the lad who’s stag do it is, is also having a marquee so I can imagine he wouldn’t like it if he had a stag do weekend before his wedding)

Our wedding is 12th May, and exam season at Uni runs from 8th - 18th May. Luckily as our wedding is a Saturday I wont have an exam that day, but could easily have one the day before or on the Monday.

I think life just happens reagrdless of the wedding and you just do what you can to get on with it. I would imagine that you will have everything sorted by then anyway, and if there are any last minute panics, have you got family or friends who could help? **men just get in the way anyway ?**

Ha ha ha thats very true, I wouldnt care its not as though he has done anything towards the wedding yet... well other than the propsal part! ha.

Well thats my worry Aroha2, we will be dressing the marquee the days leading up to the wedding, but hopefully will have plenty of helpers.

My week so far has consisted of...

Mon and Tues at work, cleaned the house yesterday, off to have a pedicure today.......honestly not really much in the way of wedding stuff.

I think I'm wierd though- if it's a marquee in your home I'd imagine you would be doing stuff a couple of days before but not really the weekend before

So do you think I'm overacting a little if I kick up a fuss about the OH going on a Stag Do the weekend before the Wedding?!!?

Kicking up a fuss might be a bit much. Encouraging him to think about how much work will need to be done (especially if you have to do loads of gardening etc), especially if he will be working the week between this stag and your wedding, is definitely a good idea.

I actually spent most of the weekend before our wedding at an internet forum meet (not hitched - I'm a mod on a big forum elsewhere and we were having our annual planning meeting). Not the best idea I've ever had, but we managed.

Well he did say her would possibly not go with them on the mini bus, and just drive so he can leave later to get there and get away sooner the next morning.... So he isnt being totally stupid about it I think I'm just panicing straight away!

My OH has an exam at the opposite end of the country the Monday before our wedding. I can't think of much he will need to do - I will be dealing with cakes, favours and placecards/table plans, but there's not much in his department on for that week. Decoration has to be on the day (and florist will take care of it!) and his parents are around if I need help with stuff as well. If he's willing to plan exactly what needs doing by him when (marquee/gardening) I can't see a problem with a weekend off. I'd assume that marquee decoration would be no more than a couple of days before.

Some unis have exams on Saturdays. I remember having one and hear it quite regularly when our ex-students come back to visit. I'm sure you've already checked it out with your place but just thought I'd mention it.

To the OP - normally I'd be quite annoyed, but still 'let' him go. However, in my mind, the whole marquee thing and having it at home, makes a big difference. I'd definitely expect him to be around to help with all that.

I wouldnt stop him going, he's big enough to make his own decision. But I just know what I'm like, I will be such a nasty/grumpy/twisty little witch the whole week before the wedding, not the right way to start a marriage! ha

Try not to worry, the chances are very slim.

You could call your department and ask if they do ever do Saturday exams. Even if the timetables not fixed yet they should be able to tell you that. And if you let them know the date of your wedding they may even take it into account when finalising the timetable.

My Husband 2b is off to a stags do the weekend before the wedding also! I predict everything to be sorted by then and if its not. I'll have a quiet, clean and organised house to deal with it! Pure Bliss lol x
