Is this a bit naff? B/M dress

bridgetvictoria, 19 April, 2009 at 21:44 Posted on Planning 0 18

I really like this but don't know if the fake flowers in the hem are a bit naff and rubbish and people will go 'Oh, how naff and rubbish; fake flowers in a hem!'

And also, is it ok for a 9 year old.

And also, what's the probability of them being there in six months or should I buy them now?

I thought that dress looked familiar. Amethyst has posted about the same dress for her flower girl. I think it's really sweet. I think Amethyst was planning on waiting to see if they had special offer or go in the sale

    Hiya

I don't think it's naff - my 9 year old neice to be would love it. It's not to my personal taste but I wouldn't be scornful if someone else chose it at their wedding. I think little girls will think it's fun.

Not sure about growth spurts tho - sorry.

    HTH

I don't think it's naff at all and think a 9 year old would be fine with it.

Where is it from? Not sure how long you would be able to wait if it was a high street shop as most of their wedding stuff would be in from now until July - then after that, they tend not to order in so much and just sell what is there if that makes any sense at all.

That's a BHS dress isn't it? i think they are mega cute, and my FG (who is 8) would definitely wear it.

i would say that dessy do a similar dress (i'm almost sure, though you might need to double check... think it's without the flower at the waist) but they are more expensive. so you do have another option if you decide not to get this one. i would say if this is definitely the one for you to get it now (as they may sell out/stock may dwindle), but also to get all the sizes you may possibly need to allow for growth spurts.

Great dress! I don't think I have naff taste and really love the dress. And the flowergirl's dad is super stylish, never goes in for buying his daughter any clothes with 'embellishments' on and he really likes it too!

My FG will be 3 and a half on the big day - which isn't until next year.

After seeing the dress online I went to see it IRL today and it is fab IRL too. I am waiting for them to include it in one of their 20% off days or something - signed up to get all the BHS email newsletters!

They must have had it in last year too - guy I used to work with it had it at his wedding. His wife said - this is was swung it for me - was that her FGs absolutely loved the dress - were very fascinated with the petals in the dress - kept swishing the skirt around to make the petals move. Sounds like fun!

I think I am going to alter it slightly to fit more in with my dark blue theme - add in some darker blue petals (could undo a bit of the netting to do this and then sew it back up again) and change the flowers at the waist or add in a sash instead.

    HTH!

Hey, hope you weren't offended... I was thinking of a blue sash as well... Like the idea of swishing bridesmaids!

Ha ha no! It would take a LOT more than that! I'm sure at least some people with think some of my ideas naff anyway - that is the way of the world!

Also - I think it would be fine for a 9 year old - but having said that I don't actually know any 9 year olds - maybe check with the girl's mum? They did have one today that was to fit a size 14 year old though!

I took some more pics on my camera phone if I can work out how to get them onto my laptop I'll upload them.

I love that dress! I think you should maybe wait a bit longer before you buy a FG dress, kids growth spurts can go wild ?

Yeah- finding the balance between getting the right size and them not being sold out is gonna be tough!

I'm getting married next August and even though I have seen a FG dress that I love and would look great on my little cousin I am waiting until closer to the time only because of the main reason being kids grow.

You never know, you might see something else you like nearer the time, or if the same dress is available it could be cheaper.

You don't want to be spending the money now for something that isn't going to fit on the day ?

I'm going to go with the one that should be a wee bit big on her and take it in (unless she has the aforementioned growth spurt then I won't need to!). Her mum says it will be fine - it better be!

I'd love this dress for my 5 year old flower girl but it's the wrong colour. Mel B from the Spice Girls had dresses like these for her daughters when she got married last year. I think they're lovely. x

I love the dress for littlies, but making a 14 year old wear it is just downright cruel!
