Is this a reasonable price?

Random Name, 1 June, 2011 at 11:13 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hi all

Have started looking at cars and have been quoted £755 for 3 white taxi's? This is for 3 hours (which is all we would require) I'm based in London (not sure if that makes a difference)

Also, wondering if it makes a difference that I will be in the same style car as the bridesmaids? Maybe I could have a different colour ribbon on mine?

Edit- Have just received a quote from another company for £705 (they have taken £45 off as we will be having 3 cars)

Sounds reasonable to me - what are your colours for the day?

    ?

Sorry, I really couldn't justify that kind of price on a car for a few hours! Can the bridesmaids not go in normal black cabs?! Booked in advance I'm sure you could put ribbon on them.

Personally I think that sounds very steep. I agree with RaeF - cant you book the bridesmaids in black cabs and yourself in white?

Thanks ladies. I thought it was too much but didnt want to bias the question

My Mum suggested a nice mini bus as there will be 5 bridesmaids, 2 children my mum and OH Mum. Her exact words were "if its good enough for Will and Kate". I had thought about that but thought it may seem like I was being cheap

Mrs C had let me know the company she used but looking at their site they only had the one (white) taxi and I wanted the more modern looking one

I had a few quotes when I was looking at they ranged from £250 to £350 for 3 hours per old white taxi... some of them reduced the 2nd car by £50 when booked all together.

This was the reason we only had one car... mum drove herself and the bridesmaids in her Zafira... for the cost of a ribbon!!!

For comparison, i've just been quoted £210 for one white taxi in manchester (about 3 hours). we're going to have it do three separate trips between mum's & the church, and then take me & OH to reception. don't think i'd want my BM's in a normal black cab in case there was dirt on the seats. this will be lovely and clean for us and decorated with ribbons and flowers Smiley smile i do agree wedding cars are a total rip off in general though when you know a local minibus taxi would only be a tenner all in!

    WOW !

I used these guys for my (London) wedding in April - they were definitely cheaper than your quote. The driver was quite miserable (which made no difference to me - I was wrapped up in other things on the drive to the wedding venue, but it did occur to me on reflection !)

They charged 200 quid for a cab for minimum 3 hours and they had a lot of different models of white cabs from cars that were really old all the way up.

However it was only a 15 minute driver from our hotel to the venue and then we never used the car again so money for old rope in my opinion !!

On reflection, hailing a (any old) cab and going in that would have been a completely fine option for me, but ho hum !

I am paying £329 for 2 cars. We can have these from 12:30pm until 3:30pm. It sounds a bit steep but as you say u are based in London and those prices are maybe reflecting that. xx

Wow I think that sounds like a lot, even for 3 cars...

I paid £330 for 2 cars which was the cheapest quote we got for the style of car we wanted. I think you just have to keep shopping around or try and get some recommendations on Hitched?

These were one of the people I got a quote from. Our journey is about 20 min from parents to church then another 20 from church to reception

Am now looking at people carriers. May see if anyone in the family has a connection if not may hire one and ask one of my cousins to drive
