Is this an ok price for photography???

Kadence, 6 August, 2011 at 20:41 Posted on Planning 0 29

My big sis got married last year and her photos were fab. She had two photographers that were there until 9.30pm, had the images on cd, a musical dvd thingy and 10 prints of there choice. She also has an engagement shoot...all for £400 as he was just starting up!

But now he has gone full time, so the package would cost £1350 - however because he did my sisters he said I can have the same package for £1000. Do you think this is a reasonable price????

thankyou in advance x

It depends where abouts you are based as well as the cost of wedding photography varies dramatically across the country!

Sounds reasonable for someone in their second or third year.

It comes down to the quality of the images. It is really expensive for poor photos, ok for ok photos and very cheap for great photos! It's a little like judging a Ferrari and a Fiesta based on price. If you love the photos and the price is within your budget, then it's a good price for you.

    Hi people

I have just started doing my research on photographers (getting married in London April next year) and the prices are huge - seems to be £1500k-2k!

It depends what you are getting for the money really..

If I said 1 wedding generates me a solid weeks worth of work, and that yesterday I worked 14 hours at a wedding, and that today I have already put in 4 hours of editing, That I am off to see a couple in Worksop tonight... the fee of say £1500 before tax, before costs suddenly doesn't seem that much

When I say a "solid weeks worth of work, I reckon I do at least 50-60 hour weeks. When I was employed full time, I worked 40 hour weeks, earnt more, and had a lot less uncertainty..

    Flip this about a bit..

How much a year do you want your H2B to earn?

Lets take into account 40 weddings a year & paying for marketing, gear, buying product, cars, petrol and other expenses

Divide that salary by 40 (and then multiply that by 2)

Say you said - I want my H2B to earn £25000 then the figure he needs to charge per wedding is 1250

For that you get £25000, and a roller-coaster of emotions until he is established, and then no weekend life

    I LOVE WEDDINGS!

    I do!

Hey, we are paying £800 for our photographer and for that we get:- 2 photographers all day and most of the night, he is also gonna take us on the day to a local park to take some photos, a dvd of all photos and set to our choice of music, online page for our family n friends and guests too go on and look at photos (they can order some of them if they want aswell) and a 50 page album.....

Some of the prices for photographers was ridiculous and you werent gettin much for it. When we met with our photographer he came to our home and showed us some of his work . We were really imppressed with him and his work!

suppose it also depends where u live though Smiley sad

I agree it really depends on the quality of the photos and where you're having the wedding. We had our photographer recommended to us and are paying £895. For that we get a prewedding shoot with one photo on a canvas, and the rest on disc, the prints on little business cards with the website address where the wedding photos will be, 2 photographers all day, 10 prints and an album.

I totally agree with that. You cannot judge photography by price alone. Lots of photographers have deals and prices that sound great, but their work is just so average, that its not worth booking them.

You also have to consider that if you have 2 photographers, they'll be sharing the wages, therefore you'll probably be getting two lesser photographers, rather than one great one for the same price.

It also depends where you stay and wheere the wedding is, some places are more expensive than others. You will know when you meet the right photographer, we did. I dont agree with the comment about getting 2 photographers who are lesser than one great photographer , think thats a bit unfair and could put people off! but thats just my opinion .... We are having 2 photographers and their portfolio is much better than other photographers we looked at, 2 photopraphers also mean that you may get some photos that you may not have got if you have one, as he/she wouldnt b able to be in two places at once Smiley smile but hey ho what do i know lol

When I do a wedding on my own my output often blows other couples out of the water because I'm focused and don't have to worry about the other tog.

Yet, there are some amazing couples out there who are better than me - it's very much a how long is a piece of string.

I know in many cases I'll be better than someone who supplies two togs, an album, a canvas and 50 prints.....and all I would supply is myself and 500 images on DVD for the same money. The most fundamental important thing is taking the right pictures and editing them the right way as that can't be undone or purchased at a later date.

Albums can be bought any time, prints can be had for 19p each yet I often see people say 'Well they supply a few A4 prints too' etc as a reason to choose them.

We paid £750 for seven hours. We got a disc with 850 edited photos on, plus one each for set of parents and 400 6x4 prints.

It's a persons own personal choice when it comes to booking photographer, each to their own as they say lol their is benefits to having one photographer but there is also benefits to having two. I can see it from both sides but we clicked with our chosen photographer and we taken on with the idea of having 2 working together Smiley smile

I think that togs are probably the most important people to hire for a wedding, they are your memories and I think stunning photos are worth every penny.

Exactly and that is why they were the most expensive part of our wedding (apart from the venue).

We spent more on our rings and dress, suits etc but only because we got a discount with the photographer as I went to school with her.

My Husband said right form the beginning that he would blow our budget for our photographer - you have to get them right...

    I think it's worth it.

I had huge memory blanks of my wedding day - there was so much going on I don't think my brain could take it all in and it's only after looking through my photos that things have come back to me.

Couldn't agree with you more Trickers!

When I went to one wedding fayre all the cheap photographers were offering photos of a quality that are not much above what I can take and albums that look like they came from Asda. I'm really pleased with the man I have booked, stunning work and beautiful abums.

I don't know why togs get such bad press on wedding forums, I'll agree they are a lot of money, but the quality is there to see with the right photographer. Its the same quality difference between buying a dress from Primark or from Dior, and we all know which kind of dress we'd prefer for a special occasion.

Well thankyou very much everyone!! As he did my sisters I know the quality of the images are fantastic, so we're going to take the leap and book him! Exciting!! (plus my lovely gramps has told us he's giving us £400 towards him so even more chuffed!)
