Is this idea a hen do or hen don't?!

Laura Styles, 9 January, 2014 at 15:50 Posted on Planning 0 35

I really want to arrange a teddy bear's picnic for the hen do after seeing these amazing teddy bear onesies. I'm thinking more along the lines of glamping - hot tub, champers, no wellies or weeing in a ditch or anything!

What do you think? Would you be horrified to have your hen outfit be a onesie? The ones i've seen are made to order so will fit well and can get silly names etc on them too. I think it will be a giggle!

That sounds quite fun. I'd refuse point blank to where a onesie out and about, but if it's just at a lodge / room somewhere then yes I'd do it.

I'd be fine with it but the onsie would depend on how much it is for a custom one - I wouldn't be keen on spending much as I would never wear it again (I hate onsies).

I do spend almost every minute I'm at home in my pyjamas, though, so I'd be happy with that!

Well each girl has put into the hen do kitty, so I would be working to that budget with the outfits. I am not the biggest onesie fan ever, but the ones I've found look really brill! I don't know if I've just seen them and got carried away, but I think it is something a bit different Smiley smile

Oh yeah I'm the same, definitely wouldn't venture out in it, but it would just be like a pyjama party. I think if we got names on and maybe a little date or something it could be something fun to keep. I would definitely wear mine again!

I'm having a onesie hen complete with teddy bear Smiley smile We are doing a meal followed by a ghost hunt then back to the rooms for games, munchies and the odd small sherry ?

All my hen's were up for it even my mum as we would have been doing it in fancy dress anyway ?

Sounds like fun to me ;-)

Are you going to flash us a picture of the onesies you are looking at?

Ah really?! Brill! Ghost hunt is a really fab idea! I never thought of that. Bet it will be loads of fun Smiley smile

Where are you going for the hunt? Are you UK based?

I spotted the bear onesies on All in One. Just innocently clicked on a link on Facebook and then... might have fallen a bit in love with them!

The idea is ok in itself but I have to say that as a hen I would be beyond fucked off if the bride decided to spend £85 of my kitty money on a onesie. ? Have you looked on ebay for similar?

I love the idea, but would only do it if it was a reasonable cost.

I like the general idea but onesies are a bit of a love or hate thing and they look pretty expensive. What about pjs with bears on them? Not as literal but cheaper and more likely to be worn by all (I know a couple of my hens would cringe at the thought of having to wear a onesie)

Hi, yes I'm uk based, we are doing the ghost hunt at Craig yr Nos Castle, South Wales.

We are doing the whole meal, ghost hunt etc in our onesies while carrying a teddy, but I've got to say there's no way I would pay or expect my hen's to pay anywhere near the price of the bear onesies that you like. Every one with me is just wearing whatever one they want, so what they pay is up to them and to be honest I think the price that that company is charging is a complete rip-off!!

I have no issues with the general idea but for a one time wear i think £85 is a bit much - i suppose it depends what the whole budget for the hen do is...

Yeah I know what you mean, they are more expensive than eBay or a highstreet seller, but I have to say I do like the fact that they are made in england. Thought it would be a nice novelty for it to be British as we are having a 'staycation' rather than going abroad - wedding is going to be v British theme.

Also the lady who runs the company set it up on her own and so prob can't charge highstreet prices... my Mum always taught me 'buy quality instead of buying twice'... but maybe that doesn't apply to teddy bear onesies haha!

Am I just trying to convince myself? I love them so much!!

Still haven't decided what to do yet :/

We have £250 pp in the kitty and I have booked a really nice room in a YHA hostel in Yorkshire. It's a big old country house in Bronte country - looks really lovely.

Does the person who does the hen usually get gifts for the other hens?

That sounds great, something you will definately remember, and as others said beats the sash and willy straws.

    EDIT:

Yeah £85 is a bit much. i think primark sell simailr ones (the lads have looked at them for stag do's before now)

I'd much rather you spent £84 of the outfit money on more booze and a pound on a pair of deely-boppers.

If I were you, assuming you have some, I'd save this idea for getting ready with your BMs on your wedding day. Fab photos to be had, especially with a decent TOG on hand.

    Exactly this ?

Then again I hate onesies so I'd much rather a large chunk of my money were put towards something I would enjoy.

Next had some they were £30 I think. Ears and everything!

Sorry but for £250 I'd be hoping for at least a weekend in Benidorm, not a teddy bears picnic in an overpriced romper suit

Personally I think that is an insane amount of money for a onesie! I wouldn't care if it was handmade and stitched with unicorn hair...

I would love a picnic in the woods for my hen though, perhaps cocktails in teapots, just in normal clothes!

Thank you for all the comments guys...we have some onesie haters out there..I am sorry to bring out the onesie rage! I know it's a matter of taste and priorities etc. I guess with any luxury product there is a price tag like this due to the amount of the work that goes into making it. Maybe I will just buy myself one and they can all be goldilockses haha! We're definitely having a UK-based hen do hence the picnic in the woods idea and the reason I was tempted by the fact the onesies are made in england. Just seen they have a competition so definitely just going to enter that...might as well try my luck haha!

I haven't seen bear onesies anywhere else Smiley sad I definitely wouldn't ever buy anything from Primark as I cannot stand the place, but not sure where else to look for this kind of thing??

I am an advertiser's dream, I see something and want it and nothing else will do! Such a big kid Smiley winking

Be honest. Are you on some sort of commission or something? Do you know the owner of the company? Perhaps you ARE the owner of the company?

£85 is a ridiculous price for a onesie. Quality or not. I would be utterly fuming if I'd paid £250 for a hen do and 34% of it went on an oversized baby gro that I would never wear again.

I probably would struggle spending £85 on a top or a skirt I would wear a lot, let alone a romper suit. The idea, in theory is a good one. The Onesie isn't.

If you REALLY want the onesie, buy it for yourself.

    Agree with Rod. Wholeheartedly.

And if you are an advertisers dream, would you like to buy the crap wonderful array of memorabilia and vintage articles currently residing in my loft? It's a real bargain (well £3000 ish) and most of it is fabulous and British.

I reckon the people on the website are having a fabulous time in their onsies, because it looks like they are in a posh lodge with a hot tub. When you say picnic in the woods for £250pp - I expect the guest will be expecting quite a posh picnic / booze / entertainment and accommodation. Not a youth hostel and a onsie that costs that amount of money.
