Is this odd? (dinner related)

Mrs Bloom, 30 September, 2008 at 00:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Been chatting to one of OH's friends, for some reason the q came up, 'What did you have for your tea?'

We had homemade chilli made with turkey mince, boiled rice, and stir fried spring greens....... Now my q is, is it odd that I serve the vegetable as an added side dish? Said friend found it hilarious that we had 'cabbage' with our chilli. I'm not particularly health concious but I do at least try to make sure we eat vegetables with each meal....................am I strange?

I wouldn't have found it hilarious but I don't serve veg with chilli con carne, I have to say. Same as I wouldn't with, say, spaghetti bolognese. Some meals just don't call for veg, in my opinion. A side salad at a push but then again, I don't like salad. ?

Not at all - I generally serve veg wth every meal. We had broccoli with our bean chilli last week.

I would find that a little strange. I couldn't think of a veg that would actually go with chilli. And surely theres plenty of tomatoes & onions etc in the chilli to count as at least 3 portions of your daily intake ?

Unless we have veg to use up, I would tend not to serve extra veg with chilli/bolognaise type meals. If I did, I think it would only be something I could throw in with the rice to cook-i wouldn't dirty an extra pan ?

I always have salad with chilli/spag bol etc. The stir-frying I find slightly odd ?

I don't serve vegetables as a side dish for things like chilli or bolognaise, but I include certain vegies in the dish, like carrots, mushrooms, onions, or peppers.

Having said that I'm not really a fan of rice so I have chilli with pasta which my mother finds most odd.

My H put half a banana in the chicken and spinach curry he cooked last night. Now, believe me, that is odd ?

I wouldn't include a veg side dish with chilli.

I put into my chilli mushrooms, onions, tomatos, peppers to count as enough veg for a meal so i wouldn't see the need for extra.

I would probably have put the greens through the chilli, usually do throw in some thing green and a couple of grated carrots if we haven't already had those colours that day.

I don't think it's odd, and sometimes it is nice with a hot chilli to have some veg that are a bit cooler.

I don't tend to do extra veg as am lazy, but H quite often does. I find it unusual with things like stews, but not really odd

I also have salad with those kinds of meals, but wouldnt really find veg on the side as something to take the mick over.

When doing oriental curries and stuff, I tend to do extra veg in soy/oyster sauce or whatever, but for some reason in my head, thats OK.

I have salad with it, but nowt wrong with veg. I have some dishes with green beans on the side so you are not alone.

Why take the mick though? Each to their own it's not affecting them...I quite like having veg with my meals.
