Is this okay for a guest to wear?

Cache13, 30 June, 2015 at 12:19 Posted on Planning 0 20

I was a little taken aback my FSIL went out and bought an ivory dress without evening thinking to ask me if it was okay. It's a knee length ivory dress with a mocha lace top and bolero. I'm glad I didn't go for a lace bolero with my dress now!

I have too many other things to think about to pick her up on this, but I'm interested to know if you'd be annoyed if a guest wore this?

To be honest, it wouldn't bother me. No-one is going to look at her and think she's the bride and you'll be far too busy getting married to worry about it.

It looks like a lovely dress and wouldn't bother me at all! All eyes will be on you, the bride, for sure!

Nearer the time I doubt you'll even think twice about it Smiley smile

I wouldn't mind if someone wore that either.

I'm usually one of the people that says you shouldn't wear white/ivory to a wedding but in all honesty it wouldn't have bothered me if someone turned up at my wedding wearing this.

I personally wouldn't choose to wear it to a wedding but it wouldn't bother me.

I'm sorry but the first thing that came to mind was a grown adult doesn't have to justify their outfit of choice to you that's a beautiful outfit and no way is it at all bride. Myself I wouldn't ever wear white to a wedding as I would be worried about offending but in reality so long as it's not a long white wedding dress with a veil and tiara it doesn't matter

I wouldn't be annoyed, I think its very appropriate for a wedding. There's no danger of anyone mistaking her for the bride!

Can't see issue, never have seen issue with people wearing cream or white. Anyone ever not know who bride is? ?

I think that'd be fine as the top part really takes away the obvious cream-ness about it. I can understand the bridezilla though!

i made MIL change her outfit as she had a plain white dress in mind ( I didn't actually say she can't wear it, but in conversation me and OH were both quite surprised and he basically just said look, no one wears white to a wedding and that was enough to put her off)

i wouldn't normally care, but I just don't like MIL much so it was just ANOTHER thing!

Don't fret, it's fine! The old white/ivory rule is daft imo. As long as you don't look bridal, all's good!

I think it is fine. I think if I was going to a mature bride's wedding (50+) who is say for instance marrying again, I would not wear this outfit.
