We have a large front garden with a sweet chestnut tree on it. It's dropping it's *fruit* aplenty at the moment but MrBoB & I haven't got round to raking any up yet so the whole lawn is pretty much covered in leaves & the shells.
Last night, MrBoB spotted somebody under the tree and went out to see what he was up to. I should clarify that our garden is exposed to the road on 2 sides and on the third side is a public footpath so we frequently get people cutting across. Anyway, this chap was there, complete with hammer and carrier bag, breaking open the shells and filling his bag with chestnuts.
Now MrBoB and I are rather sick of the sight of chestnuts by this time of year so we don't have any particular problem with people swiping them but the fact that he'd clearly come prepared was what suprised us more than anything. If he'd been taking them away in their shells then that's one thing but to nick the fruit and still leave us with the remains is a bit off, no? Or AIBU?
