Is this the most expensive bacon butty ever? UPDATE ANOTHER UPDATE!!!!

Hugo Brambles, 20 November, 2009 at 14:30 Posted on Planning 0 66

I don't quite know how I've let this slip past me (probably because I'm selling a business, running another business, having a baby and trying to organise a wedding all single handidly) but we are not having an evening buffett, just bacon butties (1 each!) and they are costing us £9.50 each?

I feel embarressed to be paying that, it's extortionate! ?

U P D A T E

Spoke to the hotel, I think they are getting a bit fed up with me now, I think I'm not doing myself any favours by not letting this lie. Apparently they should be £10.50 each and they already discounted them to £9.50 as it's January. To clarify, £9.50 is indeed for one bacon roll. They've pointed out that they've already reduced the price of the venue, room hire, bedrooms etc and they're basically saying I've got a good deal.

L A S T U P D A T E

The hotel have agreed to 2 bacon butties each and some wedges for the price we'd agreed! Huuurraaahh! Thanks for all your support guys ?

Jesus mary and joseph! I thought us paying £3 for ours was bad seein as you couls prob make them for 50p a piece.

maybe you should raise your concerns with the venue. see if you can pay cash and get them to knock off the VAT. we're doin that with a few of our suppliers.

We are thinking of having them too (autumn wedding, outside for fireworks like you, then back in for bacon butties). Our quote is £6.50 each with a coffee station too. Veggie option is cheese on toast.

Do you have to have them?? As in, could you just phone them, ask why they're so expensive, complain and then say you don't want them. Or what can they offer you as a cheaper alternative?

That is very expensive!! I've recently just done a big offsite event for work and I paid £2.75 for a bacon buttie.

Wowzers, where have you booked HB? Most of the venues I've looked at in Yorkshire have been around the £5 mark for bacon butties.

F uck me, just rung OH to tell him and he's gone up the feckin wall at me. He's never seen the figures at all apparently. FFS, I've been doing all this on my friggin own, he's not given 2 $hits about any of it (bar his stag do) and when I've tried to ask him or get his opinion he's not wanted to know. Really really fecked off now.

    Sorry. Rant over. And breathe......

I'm waiting for them to get back to me via email regards something else so when they get back to me, I will have a word about this. I could have 2 bloomin chocolate fountains for the same price and let everyone gorg on that.

Re the OH you poor thing - and you have my sympathy. It's a lot on your own isn't it?

Re the bacon butties, I've seen them at about £6.50 places I've looked - which, yeah, is a lot, but then everything's a lot for private hire and then a lot more when the W word is mentioned - I think getting them for £3 is a brilliant deal!

I'd say that looking at your budget you don't think you can afford to do food in the evening, and ask if there's any room for reduction as the price seems very high. Find out how many they're proposing per person - perhaps they're thinking of 2 per person or something!

    Good luck x

Thanks BSB. I've already negotiated them down on not paying for venue hire, not paying exclusivity charges, not having to hire all 21 bedrooms. Of course I did all that before we'd agreed to go with them (and paid a deposit) so I was in a great bargining position.

It's one each. Even if they are baggette sized that still so much! You don't even pay that at festivals/airports where they know how to sting you. I feel so cross about it. LIke you say you hear the W word and it takes the mickey. I will have a word with them and see what they say. I will update everyone on 'Buttygate' when I know more ?

We choose bacon butties to save money as the evening buffet would have been £21 per head ️?️

I will double check if that includes extras, if it included wedges and jam doughnuts for after I'd be happy with that and if it was more than one each but it's definately one per person, it says that on the breakdown of figures. There has never been any mention of extras unfortunately.

I was going to suggest checking if anything else is included. I'm not being funny, but surely they would know that 1 bacon buttie, although nice is not that filling IYSWIM. I would see if it comes with potato wedges or at least some rice or salad.

    Hi

Our venue 'offered' us bacon butties for the end of the evening (we already are having sit down meal, evening buffet) they thought the bacon butties would be a good idea to soak up some booze as the reception isnt finishing till 1am being as its new years eve. They offered to do the butties for a deal for £5.50 each (usually £8.50 each). i didn't bother asking how big they were cus i thought no way they are getting enough bloomin money out of us. so i have asked for them to make sure they leave the buffet out until the end of the night, cus i have noticed recently alot of places seem to take the food away quite early regardless of how much is left!!

I definatly try to get them to come down, its obscene how they can charge that much

    Good luck x

If you don't manage to get extras/it negotiated down, I'd take it on the chin and suggest you advise OH to do the same - think of all the money you're NOT paying out overall and hopefully that should console you.

For £9.50 i would want freshly baked bread (baked so i can bloody watch it!) and a hell of a lot of the poshest pig ever! I want pig royalty!

F**k me! I can't get over it! Live and learn! I do hope they're bloody good. If any are cold send them back and request hot bacon butties! A cold bacon butty is a ham sandwich!

    Shocking price!

£4.99 at ours, looking into this, but might have a pigroast brought in instead, depending on price.

    Goodluck with that!

Sounds like good advice to me. The price is too high. I'm paying £4.95 pp, which is a cheeseboard that I'm serving as the buffet later instead of with the dinner.
