Is this the most expensive bacon butty ever? UPDATE ANOTHER UPDATE!!!!

I don't quite know how I've let this slip past me (probably because I'm selling a business, running another business, having a baby and trying to organise a wedding all single handidly) but we are not having an evening buffett, just bacon butties (1 each!) and they are costing us £9.50 each? I feel embarressed to be paying that, it's extortionate! ?

U P D A T E

Spoke to the hotel, I think they are getting a bit fed up with me now, I think I'm not doing myself any favours by not letting this lie. Apparently they should be £10.50 each and they already discounted them to £9.50 as it's January. To clarify, £9.50 is indeed for one bacon roll. They've pointed out that they've already reduced the price of the venue, room hire, bedrooms etc and they're basically saying I've got a good deal.

L A S T U P D A T E

The hotel have agreed to 2 bacon butties each and some wedges for the price we'd agreed! Huuurraaahh! Thanks for all your support guys ?

Just seen this Bacon-Butty-debacle and I have to say, that is absolutely extortionate! Fancy charging that!

Even organic wouldn't cost that much, surely?!

Do you have to *have* the bacon sandwiches? Is it in your contract that you must have them?

If not, then maybe do without them. Otherwise, just put it down to experience and at least you have a funny story to tell in years to come...

But what's the alternative - the evening buffett is £21 a head which is even MORE out of our league!! I've got to feed people something?

What time is your ceremony and your wedding breakfast?

If they're late on in the day, then maybe you don't need any evening food?

Ouch! Shame nothing can be done about it. Just make sure all the guests know how much they cost!

That was the original plan GeordieBarbie but the register wouldn't do the ceromony later than 2pm so consequently we're eating about 4pm so deffo need something in the evening. When we realised that is when we went for the bacon butty over the buffett which as I say we couldn't afford.

Your buffet shouldnt be per head. I had 80 peeps and buffet'd for 60. No left overs!

On the other hand - you could take all the 9.50s per head and hire a burger van to feed your guests

    ?

Thanks true TeeHee, although some venues I looked into did make you cater for 100% of the guests, not sure if the one we went for was one of them. Even for catering for 60 people, at £21 per head it's a lot of money for us.

Believe me we've thought about the buger wagon!! The hotel would love that one........lol.

our venue insisted on catering for 100% for the evening buffet (it was charged per head) so we've just told them there's a few less coming than there is. the room can take up to 150, we've got about 120 but told them to cater for 100. Most of the day guests won't eat much anyway.

Can't do that as we're not having evening guests, just everyone there for the day. If we tell them less than we are then they'll be a few unhappy guests who don't get chairs/food in the day!!

I'm glad everyone's gobsmacked because when I speak to the hotel I feel like I'm being the biggest tightwad out!!

HB I fail to believe how anyone can think you are being a tightwad with that! I was so gobsmacked I read it out to OH and his response was 'what!!? I'd tell them where they could stick their bacon rolls!'

Our evening buffet is priced per item so we can add what we want up to the amount we want, for example, a selection of sandwiches is £1.75 ph, pasta salad, £1.25 ph, etc. We've not finalised our buffet, I think we had worked out we could get sandwiches, sausage rolls, pasta salad, chicken strips, quiche and a couple of other things for about £10.50 ph or something.

HB My OH thought i was joking when I told him how much it was costing you. Our Venue has said if we put out enough food for 2/3's of our guests per item we choose on our buffet they will give us the other third for free. Our dearest item is Sole Goujouns and its £3.95.

I don't think your being a tightwad, I think its perfectly reasonable to be upset with them!!!

    L xx

OMG. That is ridiculous. I recently got married. Twice actually. Booked a private function room for an intimate wedding breakfast for my family and i in the UK but didn't tell the venue it was for a wedding. When i did they sent me their wedding canapes and drinks arrival menu - it was £9.50 per glass of champagne! That said the venue was lovely and i choose not to have drinks upon arrival. My other half and i actually had two weddings - 1 in the UK and 1 in France, greedy i know! But i can absolutely promise you that with some careful planning and negiotating you can have an amazing wedding day or two! Our two weddings together cost less than half the price of your average wedding. I promise. I started a blog because i want to let other brides to be know that it is possible to get married and it not break the bank balance. I'd really like to know me know what you think of http://twiceasnicewedding.blogspot.com/

Thats good that you managed to negotiate 2 for the same price but still can't believe that they would try to charge you £9.50 each for a bacon butty. Not only that, but the price is actualy £10.50 each - I had to tell my OH this one - he nearly choked!!!!!

    Well done ?

Oh well done you!!!! Two for the price of one....AND wedges...thats what I call a result!

I still find the price shocking tho......in our venue there are 3 choices for the buffet.....7.95 (cut sandwiches, tea and coffe), 8.95 (sandwiches and sausage rolls, tea and coffe) and I think the last one is 12.95 (sandwiches, sausage rolls, pastry, pakora, pizza bites, chicken wings).......

Well done you! The original deal was extotionate. I also don't get the £22 per head buffet, I guess you must have a very posh venue.

Our reception is at a posh restaurant, the type of place you would only eat at for a special occasion, however, their wedding menus are really reasonably priced. Our evening buffet is £10 per head
