Issues with the forms! Eeek!

RizzieRazzle, 1 August, 2014 at 15:41 Posted on Planning 0 5

As most of you will know me and OH are getting married at Gretna Green and this was only decided a few weeks ago (after we'd planned a big wedding but decided it wasn't really us and so did a complete u-turn!). We sent off the M10 forms with ID and stuff and got them back today... but they said there's an issue (okay, several)... Here's some of the issues raised:

Grooms occupation – Game designer – what is this please? (self explanatory?)

Groom mum occupation – Nurse – what sort of nurse? (Umm... she's bank staff at the minute but has been every kind of nurse I know of...)

Brides father occupation – it is Labourer on birth certificate (Note: Father is deceased)

Brides mother name – what was her Maiden surname? (Her maiden name is Smith but so was her second married name)

Brides mothers occupation – what sort of Cashier? (I didn't know there were 'sorts'!)

Problem is that they told me to ring them to clarify - but when I do the phone makes this really strange rapid beeping sound. Or it rings and -nobody- answers. I've emailed them too but heard nothing yet. Any advice? Starting to fret - only 17 days away and supposed to be sorted with 15 days to go...

    At a guess:

Groom - Computer/Board game designer - they want you to be a bit more specific.

Groom mum - I would just go with Staff Nurse, guessing they mean rank of nurse or specialist nurse, ie District Nurse.

Not sure about brides father, sorry

Bride mum - think you will have to ring them and explain that, Guessing they want specific type of cashier - checkout/banking etc

Be aware that IIRC, Monday is a Bank Holiday in Scotland. Can you google a number?

Like I say, I've tried phoning them a lot but just not getting through at all. Not good!

(Thanks for the help with the answers though, it all seemed so self explanatory to me haha)

You have to be really specific with your answers, I made an appointment to do mine and they clarified all the answers. apparently its not enough to write civil servant, i had to write down my whole job title even though no one would know what that was where as they would know civil servant.

you have to give the last occupation of the brides father before he died - had to do this for OH' mum

also think you should try phoning again re mums maiden name - is it the number from the councils site you are using? you could try calling he council general switchboard and asking to be put through or for a call back?

OHs mum is deceased but had about 4 name changes before that and they made me call back the following day to clarify which one was the maiden and which was her surname at time of death
