I've chosen my cake(s) *flash*

*Bea*, 19 March, 2011 at 18:48 Posted on Planning 0 15

I've chosen our cake or should i say cakes ?

As some of you know we are having a fairly small about 45 in the day and 80 in the evening and I have been fussing about when to cut and serve the cake.

Well today we went to meet our cake lady who was lovely and we have decided on having a two tier cake ( each tier will have 3 layers so extra tall ) and it will sit on a glass cake stand. Its going to be ivory, with possibly an olive/sage green ribbon at the base of each tier then from the top as if sprinked down sugar craft flowers, she is going to make the flowers to compliment the bridesmaid dresses and my dress.

This will be cut just before the first dance and served in the evening.

As we designed it I can't flash an actual picture but these are similar styles ......

Ok so this is the naughty bit ...

I have also decided to have individual cakes for the day guests at each place setting we haven't finalised favlours yet but at the moment my favourites are lemon, carrot and white choc with lime (although she does LOADS of flavours ) They will be decorated with flowers too and will look a little like this but with ivory icing base and more flowers to match main cake ( not pink )

Phew that ended up being a big post! The main point of which is ( other than me being excited ) is i now need to choose the flavours...

... so what is your favourite cake flavour?

Like the pic of that second cake!!

sorry for jumping on your thread, are you having sponge and will it have marzipan as well as icing?

my cake maker says marzipan helps give a smoother base for the icing so it looks better but I HATE marzipan!!

and.. we were going to go for fruit, vanilla sponge, choc sponge, small fruit but do you think many people eat fruit cake these days?

Thanks BB i will make sure i get better pics next time she is going to do a mock up of the mini ones for me ? nom nom

Thats ok Kat, she did suggest having marzipan underneath for the same reason. But she said that if we didnt wan't that then we could have butter icing which smooths it out and makes it stick.

I like fruit but i know a lot of people dont. Also with the triple layers sponge works best so have gone for that. We can have a mix of flavours in each tier too she suggests chocolate and vanilla or chocolate orange and vanilla with a white choc buttercream! its making me hungry lol

Out of my immediate family 5 out of 8 prefer fruit cake to sponge cake Smiley smile Not sure if we're just a bit strange though, so maybe that doesn't help at all hehe.

Love the little cupcakes, too pretty to eat, lol. Who is doing the cakes? My favorite cake lady is Lisa Notley, she is amazing.

When I see different flavours at a reception, the fruitcake seems to be the one that lingers on the plates, chocolate goes fast, then carrot. Sometimes there is a sponge with raspberry and cream icing in the middle, those go fast too. My personal favorite is lemon, with lemon cream icing, yumm.

Thanks Teri, she is a lady i met at a recent wedding fayre she has a home based comany in somerset and her work is amazing

I had already got my favours but i fell in love with the little cakes. We are also doing a very special little chocolate fudge cake for our flowergirl ( who LOVES chocolate cake ) which i know she will definately eat lol!

I think i am leaning towards lemon and victoria sponge in the main cake - i like cakes that taste fresh rather than too sweet iykwim and then for the little cakes maybe chocolate orange, carrot (my other personal fav) and white chocolate with lime.
