I've found THE dress

lily1982, 5 January, 2013 at 18:23 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hey guys

ive found the dress on my first shopping expedition Smiley smile I tried on a Maggie sorreto Georgina dress which was reduced from £1300 to £900 it was still out of my price range and the lady said she could reduce it to £800. Still slightly out so I have gone away and to get to the question I need to know peeps opinions-

has anyone looked at getting their dress custom made from abroad? I've found a site that customises this dress for 600 pound cheaper then wot the shop offered. I'm sceptical but reading reviews everyone is really happy - I've only read one bad report and that was to do with a sash not fitting well - anyone's opinions greatly appreciated -

I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for but if your happy to go with it then do it! At least it's getting good reviews. Just be open minded until it turns up.

The problem with buying from China is they use the designer photo but you only get a copy dress. Whilst there are some good reviews, the dresses often arrive without lining, boning, in the wrong fabri and the beadwork looks nothing like the original dress.

As I cannot see Georgina on the Maggie website, I can only assume it's discontinued and this is why it is in the sale. You could try ringing around local maggie stockists to see if anyone else has a sample dress in the right size for you and at a better price, or keep an eye out on www.sellmyweddingdress.co.uk for a preloved dress.

If this really is the dress of your dreams then perhaps you could cut back somewhere else in order to buy it. But please avoid buying a fake. It is illegal and maggie are one company who are really cutting down on rip-offs and a lot of their fakes are being confiscated at customs. is it worth the risk?

I've heard many bad reviews but never bought myself as I would be too worried about risking something so important.

    Why not try pre-loved?

If you love THAT dress... nothing will compare and you could risk ending up with a dress your not happy with and still have spent hundreds... jmo though,

I personally wouldn't take the 'risk' so to speak.

Also it smacks to me of having a counterfeit handbag or similar- I have no experience of this but I just can't imagine the quality being good enough.

Like others have said, try preloved or second hand, their is a shop near me (I have bought accessories from) who sells second hand dresses and you wouldn't even know they have been worn- her address is http://www.sarahsweddingexchange.com/ in South Cheshire, dunno where you are but their are probably places similar around the country.

Thanks everyone - this has caused me q a sleepless night as getting married in April this yr - I didn't realise I'd be so bothered about the dress bit it just proves I am. I agree with all the above my gut instinct is telling me no and having read so many reviews last night and this morning it's safe to say wen it comes to a wedding dress I'm not going to jinx it. Instead I have got in touch with a local dress maker shown her the dress and she is coming round tomoz to have a look etc. does anyone know prices of dressmakers? She says that April 2013 is plenty of time so v promising . Thanks for all the advice greatly appreciated xx

WES - Second hand is the best way to get a designer dress (and quality) much cheaper. I have a Maggie dress in perfect condition. and it is chiffon so that is really unusual. I had given up on a second hand chiffon dress.

I got mine from a place in Surrey that also specialises in second-hand and sample dresses. It is in West Byfleet and is called Swoon. They have many Maggie dresses so might have this one.

Thank you so much misrae - you made my day yesterday.

i got in contact with the lady that was selling the Georgina dress and she is posting it today. The only difference is the colour - i tried on the ivory but this one is white but no biggy as it doesn't affect colour scheme at all - yay - a very happy Suzie xx
