I've had my mind blown away

Spry'sBride, 22 October, 2010 at 16:15 Posted on Planning 0 20

This isn't going to be interesting for most of you, but I just wanted to share my amazing news.

My fiancée and I have just got engaged and, like most modern couples, are paying for our own wedding. This is on a very limited budget, which I'm actually excited about. I mentioned to one of my very good friends that I was getting my dress from Oxfam (their bridal room is lovely) and she was adamant that I not have a second hand dress.

A few days later I find out that she, my gorgeous sister and about eight of my closest friends had set up a facebook event auctioning off their skills to raise money for my dress. I am still speechless at this gesture. People I don't even know are contributing, all for me. I'm not ill, I'm don't work for charity (although I did change my name by deed poll for breast cancer care - different story!) and I don't think I've done anything noteworthy, but here they are, doing all of this for me.

The auction is still going, and I'm going to donate some of the money to a charity as it's raised over £600 at the moment.

I wanted to tell you all that love is contagious and infectious and I'm so so happy!!

    I know - I'm so so lucky.

    Name change story...

My friend told me she had breast cancer last year, so to raise money, I auctioned off my middle name. I was Eleanor Jane Storey....I am now Eleanor Toy Storey. I had hundreds of suggestions, people paid £1 for each suggestion. I'm sooo looking forward to Oliver reading my name out on our wedding day!

Sadly, my friend died, but I'll be thinking of her on my big day xxx

Er - not done anything noteworthy?? Excuse me madam, you auctioned off your middle name to raise money for a very worthwhile cause!!

That aside (!), what your friends are doing is brilliant! What a superb idea!! Can I ask for the FB page - who knows, might be someone on there I fancy!

You've all been so lovely! I feel like I'm in a bubble of happiness Smiley laugh

Here's the link to the facebook page, I can't actually view it (I'm blocked!) but my sister sent me the link - I've heard bits a pieces from what's on there, and it's the most amazing thing to happen to me (apart from being asked to be someone's wife!)
