Ivory or White?

Kat44, 14 April, 2011 at 13:52 Posted on Planning 0 35

I just wondered if you're going for an Ivory or White dress? (or coloured of course!)

watching Four Weddings yesterday and the welsh girl on it kept saying the others' dresses were the 'wrong' colour because they were white! So I wondered what the majority was wearing these days?

My dress is Ivory, quite a light/standard ivory.

I think a lot of people go for Ivory, but mine is white.

I always knew it would be white.

I think a lot of brides go for ivory as it is more flattering for more skintones than white. I had more of a light cream / dark ivory dress as lighter shades didn't suit me at all as I am so pale. To me, all white/ivory/light cream dresses are "white dresses"?!

If you want advice I'd say go with Ivory - or other non-white colour. White is too harsh, and when there's such an array of coulours to choose from it's a shame not to take advantage of it. I like champagne, cream, pale gold or 'vintage cream' for wedding dresses.

If you're asking what I'm having - red! And it's not even a dress - it's a corset and skirt.

Mine is a very pale ivory because the white version was a diamond white and looked too bright!

Mine is a shade of ivory too. Despite not having fair skin, white would have been a bit much.

I call it blush. I do like blush wedding dresses. Loved Reese Witherspoon's blush coloured wedding dress that she wore last month.

Same except mine is sheeny... the sheeniness in white was awful! So ivory it is for me. Sadly I have discovered there are too many shades of that, so nothing actually matches but hey ho.

Mine is a dark ivory/champagne colour. White didn't look right on my pasty skin! Wasn't planning on a particular colour til I tried some on and saw what looked right :-)

I have quite pale skin - I hope my white dress looks OK, as I said, I always knew i'd be in white so I didn't even try on an ivory dress.

Mine is Ivory. It is a very light shade of Ivory though. To be honest, I tried on the sample and loved it but thought it was white, until she said "No, this is the Ivory one" so I said I would have the same.

I do like White dresses as well so I think its just personal preference. ?

Mine is Diamond White. Before I saw Diamond White dresses, I thought it meant a REALLY bright white, but it doesn't - it's an off-white colour. I didn't have any particular preference between white or ivory, but I'm not a fan of cream or goldy colours (for me). It just happened that the dress I tried on and liked was Diamond White.

Didn't realise however, that most shoes, veils etc are ivory. I'd always planned on borrowing SIL2B's veil, but it's ivory and looks dirty next to my dress. Solved the shoe problem with my fabulous sparklers though!

I am having white, always wanted white as having hot pink with it so thought that looked better than with Ivory. Depends on what you fancy and what your colour scheme is. Make sure you try plenty on, you may be surpirised what colours suit you. I am fair skinned and blond but white looked best on me. xx

I wanted white, but it made my skin look dull and grey. So mine is a dark ivory/very very light gold... or more accurately perhaps it's ivory with a kind of golden shimmer to it. It's been an absolute bugger to match. My shoes I'm not fussed about as you can't see them. But the first veil I bought is too light against the dress and I bought another veil last weekend and on reflection I think it will be much too dark... it was from a charity shop so I can't even return it!

I always wanted white and just looked at white dresses at first but when I tried them on I looked even more washed out, Ivory ones suited me better so I'm pleased I took my mum's advice there and got me a lovely Ivory one!

seems like it's quite a popular choice now, just amused me when that lady said it was the 'wrong colour'!

tbh, I always fancied a red dress but I knew what colours I wanted and a red dress would've looked odd!

Mine is platinum but only because I fell in love with it the moment I saw it, I even went back to the shop three times before I decided to buy it to make sure I felt the same everytime I saw it.

I definately DIDN'T want white but if I hadn't picked the one I have got Id've bought one that my sister begged me to try on just to see, it wasn't the style I thought I wanted and it was white but it was a close second to the dress I did buy.

I've had to read through this thread with caution - every time I see the words D****** W**** I am reminded of the large quatities I used to drink of it when I was younger and I start to feel ill...

My dress was ivory. I tried on white, ivory and almost gold dresses but fell in love with the style and material of the dress rather than the colour.
