James Wellbeloved?

(Claire), 11 June, 2012 at 15:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Opinions on this please.

We had to take Ray to the vets this morning. The last few weeks he's been really fussy with his food, he's had an upset tummy with bouts of sickness and diarrhea so in the end I thought it best we take him to get checked over. The vets told us that everything appeared normal but with the symptoms he has looks like he's just got a very sensitive stomach and she recommended we use James Wellbeloved. I just wondered if anyone else has tried this and what you found?

I found the Iams sensitive stomach food worked better for my cat. She refused point blank to eat the James wellbeloved food so can't tell you if it works well or not?

We've tried JWB (we've also tried Fish4dogs, chappie and Arden Grange) for Jake but after a bit he refused to eat it - in the end we had to put Jake homecooked diet otherwise he would have been ill. His tummy did settle on JWB.

JWB is one of the better foods for sensitive tums, as it doesn't contain the stuff which can cause allergies/upsets.

I visit a dogs forum (dogsey.com) - there is a whole sub-forum dedicated to food and nutrition with some very knowledgeable people to help.

Sorry Claire, I'm fairly new here...is Ray a cat or dog?

My cat, Loftus, has a really sensitive tummy and the only thing we can feed him is Hills Prescription DD...it's venison based. The numerous vets we have seen told us its best to try them on a food they would never have had before.

If Ray is a dog, one thing you can try him on is (forgive me for this) horsemeat...

Ive never used James Wellbeloved but it does have good reviews. Luckily we found something to suit loftus before we had to try yet another type of food!

JWB is good I think you can get a hypoallergenic one which would probably be best for Ray. Chappie is another one that is very palatable and good for sensitive stomachs. what food was he on before?

We've bought him the hypoallergenic one so I'm hoping it works. As a puppy we fed him the pedigree puppy pouches mixed with Eukanube (sp) and then from 5.5 monthd old he's been on the adult pedigree tins mixed with the same dry food he's always had.

I know, I hesitated suggesting it.

When loftus was poorly (and he was for a good 8 months), I used an online pet forum and loads of people swore by it for an elimination diet, not a permanent diet.

I never got round to trying it (thank goodness!) but I was starting to get desperate until the Hills stuff helped.

PS Ray is an utterly brilliant name for a dog!

Yeah pedigree is not that great from my experience (I'm a veterinary nurse and work with an internal medic) so hopefully JWB will be better if not then as someone else mentioned the hills prescription diets are good but you do need to get them from the vets. Let us know how he gets on.

H said the vet said pretty much the same thing about Pedigree so I do feel bad for not researching more. Thanks for the advice and I will let you know how we get on.

Shea is fed on JWB Lamb and Rice. I buy a 15kg bag (I have a storage bin) of the large breed for under £40 and lasts about 5 weeks. I buy from http://www.pet-supermarket.co.uk/

Jasper is sensitive with food and we tried lots of different types. We settled with JWB biscuits he prefers the fish flavour. I get it in large bags from pets at home £40 on offer , but they also do the smaller bags on 3 for 2 quite a lot. We feed him that with Pedigree Loaf tins.

What sort of pedigree meat do you feed Ray? I find Jasper doesn't get on with the Jelly or Gravy. The loaf is a little less rich and he really likes that.

Hope you find something that works for him.
