Jesmond Dene - North East Hitchers in here please!

H and I have been to Newcastle today (we live in Sunderland). We decided to go to a park on the way back and had never been to the park at Jesmond so decided to go there. We parked near the little pond bit (can't remember its name) which is close to a children's play area. Went for a wander and saw a sign saying Pets Corner. Decided to go for a look as i'm a total animal lover but ended up in the Dene. Kept wandering and ended up getting totally lost. In the end we had to exit the dene onto a road and walked around thre perimeter. I didn't have good walking shoes on so my feet were in agony. To cut a long story short - didn't find pets corner and couldn't face trying another route so came home.

Anyway, was still intrigued to know what the place was like so when we got back I popped onto flickr and found some photos. Photo number 3 had the words 'We met a hitcher...' written underneath!!! So, I know some people on here have been so here i am trying find you!

So, if you're here:

Is the pets corner still open? (It wasn't marked on the little map next to the kids play park but the sign looked pretty new)

Is there alternative parking to where we were that is closer by? (we also drove to a car park that you had to pay to use during the week but was free on weekends. Saw a sign for Pets Corner but wasn't sure how far away it was)

What's the best way to locate it? (I'm sure we were probably so close to it but took the wrong path).

TIA.

I don't know Jesmond Dene at all so can't help with your orginal question, but theres a nice pets corner in Saltwell Park, Gathshead with loads of rabbits and stuff if your looking for something similar.

Hi, it's still there. We usually take the children on a Sunday morning after we've been to the craft fair on Armstrong Bridge. Jesmond Dene is a huge place though so it's difficult to give directions unless I know whereabouts you parked etc.

We parked near to Paddy Freeman pond which according to a map I've found is at the other end of the dene so we would have had to continue to walk along for a while longer than we did. I think we needed to have parked near that Armstrong Bridge but I don't know how you get to it. We have SAT Nav but had left it at home today!

Sounds good. Would love to go there too. Is it easy to find?

It's quite a walk from Paddy Freemans Park. All the Heaton Parks (PF, Heaton Park etc) are all interlinked and lead in to the Dene at some point. Pets Corner is in Jesmond Dene itself. It is nice on a Sunday morning if you go to the craft market on Armstrong Bridge and then walk down in to the Dene and Pets Corner. There's a lovely cafe right next to it too that does fab cakes etc.

Yes pretty easy to find. Its just a few minutes from the Angel of the north. You park on the streets nearby. Its a lovely park with a lake in the middle, and nice little cafe and the pets corner.
