Jewellery Parties

Cracklin Rosie, 27 August, 2008 at 18:43 Posted on Planning 0 10

I know a few of the HIBs on here do jewellery parties and just wondered what happens at them. I've been invited to one next weekend and not sure what to expect.

Can anyone help? I'm just wondering if it will be loads of stuff to buy on the night or if there will be a few bits and pieces that I can then order to receive at a later date.

    Hi,

When I do parties all my stuff is available to buy and I also take orders. Depending how busy the party is I have also made things up on the spot so people can see it come together and change beads around if necessary but I don't usually have the time.

I think every party will be different though and some will only have samples with them and need to take orders.

I agree Kerri I hate feeling obliged to buy stuff. I have NEVER told my party customers that if they buy more the host earns more money as I think that is a rubbish way to pressure people into buying and not fair. I treat my customers the way I want treated and don't want people to buy stuff out of obligation as I wouldn't get any satisfaction out of that.

All set are you joking?!! No chance! I have set myself a target of 10 new tiara designs....but...well.....we will see!! Got 4 new ones done so far but with website designs to do as well and 6 more new ones I am pushing it! I also have heaps of other stuff to plan as well as being illish. Going for loads of blood tests tomorrow so hopefully find out what is wrong soon. Nothing major but need to get better soon, very soon!

You all set or is it easy peesy for you professionals now that you have been doing it for so long?

I'd recommend you go along, drink some wine, have a few giggles with the girls, look at the jewellery on offer and if you like something buy it - don't feel obliged to buy though. I also was feel guilty if I don't buy anything and have ended up with random casserole dishes (Pampered Chef), Willy shaped ice cube trays (Ann Summers) and body lotion I don't like the smell of (Virgin Vie). But then I am terrible for not being able to shop. Maybe take along some cash of the amount you might want to spend then don't be tempted to buy anything over and above that.

Thanks everyone. I thnk it's going to be a pretty informal night, the girl doing the jewellery is a friend of a friend and she's just been asked along so everyone can see what kind of stuff she does and some people can buy stuff if they're interested.

I take it it will be cash or cheque only as I don't think she will have facilities for Switch or whatever, so at least that way I will only spend as much as I have with me ha ha.

I've been to a jewellery party which I actually hosted and it was done by Lynsey (PurrfectGems) everyone had a really good time, ate some nibbles, drank (lots of!!) wine and generally enjoyed looking at the jewellery. There was no pressure from either me or Lynsey to buy anything and it was really easy-going. In the end a couple of my friends wanted bespoke pieces which Lyns made up there and then so obviously they were really impressed!!!

I think if you just go and have a glass of wine and if you like something then buy it and if you dont then thats fine ?

    Enjoy!!!

    hth xx

    Sorry, bit late to this....

    Everything PG said basically.

I take a selection of jewellery and about 50% of orders are buying that stock there and then and the other 50% are orders - usually an exisiting design in a different colour or slightly tweaked rather than a bespoke design.

I too have never mentioned how much the hosts gets for the reasons Lyns said.

TBH when I have held jewellery parties its very informal compared to Body Shop and Pampered Chef parties. I do a quick (and I mean quick!) talk at the beginning to introduce myself, tell people about the materials and that things can be made in other colours etc then I just let people have a look and try on and then come to me with questions. Because we're not all sat in a circle with our order sheets like at other types of parties and people just mill around as they please, people don't feel pressurised into buying something or embarrased about not ordering. I'd say about 75% of guests buy something.

As you mentioned, I only take cash and cheques at parties (I put this on the invitations) so your friend's friends might be the same.

    Hope you have fun!
