Job Application help

Rubyred, 16 June, 2008 at 22:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

Evening,

I haven't applied for a job in years.... so i'm finding this application a little daunting to say the least.

It states on the application form that for "lecturing/management post - a letter of application for this post should be attached"

Right, so do i write a letter saying "please find enclosed an application form for the position of blah, blah. I will be available to attend an interview......etc..."

or do I write one stating my experience and relevance to the position etc.....I'm confused.

Any help will be greatly received - believe me!

TIA

Jayne xx

Is there a job description or does the advert indicate the skills required in the job? Use the key words within those to make it clear that you fit what they are looking for. eg. If they want someone organised, tell them exactly how organised you are and try to explain how well you feel you'd fit within their organisation, that sort of thing. It's an opportunity to sell yourself directly to the job even better than your general CV might. Make your experiences relate exactly to the way you interpret the job, rather than expecting them to interpret you by your CV. iyswim!

Doozergirl is right - and I reckon you can never put too much effort into an application. The covering letter is where you can tailor your experiences and make them relate directly to the post and company in question. Make it difficult for them to see how you would not be the perfect candidate. This http://www.rgu.ac.uk/abs/placement/page.cfm?pge=25836 is the covering letter guide I wrote in my last job, aimed at students applying for placements, but it applies across the board.

    Good luck!
