boz, 27 October, 2008 at 18:46 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

My son is desperate to get a weekend job, paper rounds are like gold dust round here but ideally he would like to work in a shop, I have had a look on the internet and most shop jobs are for over 16s, does anyones son/daughter work weekends and if so which shops take on under 16s, hed love to work in a sports shop or games shop but anything would be great (hes 15 years and 4 months)

thanks

Where are you?I grew up in Oxford and you could get a job waitressing in the colleges from 15. or how about a saturday job in a butchers, or hairdressers?

he'll get his NI card in a couple of months, then he can fib?

I don't know how much luck he'd have in a shop until he is 16 but I know of some 15 year olds who work. One peels the spuds in a chip shop, one works in a cafe and the other had canvassed the local area offering to do general work (lawn mowing, car cleaning, pet sitting etc).

My brother used to work in a pub when he was 15 collecting glasses and I worked from the age of 11 in a catering van. Hot dog or burger anyone? ? I also collected money for a charity magazine (door to door from subscribers) from the age of around 14 to 16.

We are in Birmingham and they seem to be really quite strict around here

I didn't have a Saturday job until I was 16 (waitressing) but Mr Caterpillar used to sweep up people's leaves and walk their dogs for them to make a bit of pocket money when he was about 13 - not strictly a proper job though!
