Journalist seeking women who met their parters in very unromantic places or situations

LindaHN, 16 January, 2013 at 14:34 Posted on Planning 0 32

Hi,

I'm looking to speak to women who met their partners in very unromantic places or situations.

Maybe it was at the dentist or on a late night trip to A&E... or their eyes met in a crowded multi-storey car park or in the frozen aisle of their local supermarket.

Wherever it was, it led to love!

This is for a nice, positive feature for the women's section of the Daily Express.

Please email me on *************.*********@*****.***.

£50 fee paid on publication. It will involve a quick phone interview about how you met and a photo.

It can also include a mention of a website, business, charity or book.

Thanks for your help.

    Sounds highly unromantic!

Thanks for getting in touch - and apologies for placing this on this discussion, I've now put another request under 'Journalist seeks'.

Could you possibly tell me more about how you met? You can email me if easier? *************.*********@*****.***.

    Thanks,

    Linda

    Sounds perfect!

Do you have a pic of the two of you that you could possibly email to me?

    Thanks,

    Linda

Hi, it's about three couples who met in very unromantic circumstances. I've found one couple, so just looking for two more.

It's a positive, fun feature on relationships for the women's section of the Daily Express.

I'm very happy to let you have a look at your part of the feature before publication if your story was accepted by my editor.

How it works is that I would send off any possible ideas to my editor - I'm freelance - and they would say yes or no.

I would then have a quick chat with you on the phone.

Let me know if that sounds of interest? Happy to have a chat on the phone first - and you're free to change your mind at any point.

You can see the type of features I write on my website, www.lindaharrison.co.uk.

    Thanks,

    Linda

We met whilst I was learning to dive. In the UK, in cold, dark, inland quarries, whilst wearing two sets of thermals, a dry suit, a neoprene balaclava hood and generally had snot coming out my nose and red marks round my eyes from my dive mask when I surfaced. What he found attractive in that who knows?! We had our first kiss in a portacabin in the quarry car park - oh the romance!

    Thanks Missrae, that's fab.

Hi SpottieDottie - great story! Especially love the bit about the balaclava. Could I ask how long it is since you first met, and if you'd be happy to email me a pic of the two of you, please? I'll then send these off to my editor and they'll choose which one(s) they'd like to use.

    *************.*********@*****.***

    Thanks again!

I wasn't an exciting boring, just a boring boring, hehe, we met doing our A-levels at school. Not the most romantic place given the no contact rule.

I met my man online, On gumtree of all places.

Our engagement was in a typically unromantic setting too. The office of a student radio station!

    Hi LottiLou91,

Sounds interesting... do you have a little more info? When, how you first got 'chatting' online, why you decided to meet up and where you met, etc?

    Please email if it's easier.

    Thanks,

    Linda

    Yes of course!

I was playing Xbox online in 2009 and started chatting to some people that were in the same game as I was who then introduced me to OH (when I say introduced I mean added me to a 'party' where you can have loads of people voice chatting.

He thought I was a 12 year old boy to start with and kept making fun of me! We spent a lot of time talking as a group and when the others went for dinner or something we would chat away loads while playing matches. We added each other on Facebook and msn and chatted all the time!

We just got on really well! We planned to all meet at somewhere like Alton towers or something but never got round to it.

Then my 18th birthday came and I was having a big fancy dress party and he agreed to come as well. I met him at the train station (he traveled from Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire to Carmarthenshire, South Wales to meet me! My first words to him when he got off the train were 'oh my god, you're huge!' He was 6ft 3 at the time compared to my 5ft 3! We spent that night together and have been together ever since. We had a long distance relationship only seeing each other once or twice a month and now he moved down to Carmarthenshire to live with me Smiley smile

We've been together over 3 years now and are getting married in 2015.

I'm not sure what made us meet up, we just got along so well and it's cliche but I really could tell him anything. I was able to be myself and I can honestly say he's my best friend!

    Hi LottiLou,

What a lovely story, and very funny that he thought you were a 12-year-old boy! How did you break the news to him that you weren't?

Do you have a photo of the two of you that you could possibly email over to me? This won't be used without your permission, it's just to send to my editor when I send your story over to see if they'd like to include it.

    *************.*********@*****.***

I'll then get back to you on email to let you know.

    Thanks so much.

And congrats on your upcoming wedding!

    Linda

Well basically, after going out with a string of numpties. (my local area seems full of them) I posted an advert on Gumtree while it still accepted people looking for relationships. I got hundreds of replies and my OH's reply stood out so I picked him out of the other replies. He seemed nice, sweet and genuine and not a raging mentalist. Ended up meeting him and have been together ever since. That's 5 years ago now and in 2010 he proposed to me in the student radio station at the university where we both work.

I sometimes get a bit jealous of people who talk about how romantic their first time meeting was or how romantic their proposal was and mine really wasn't. I was sat on my OH's lap while he helped me with some audio editing and then he just turned me around and asked me to marry him. But still he shows his love in small gestures all the time rather than big ones and thats enough for me Smiley smile

Oh I didnt know gumtree stopped taking Ads for relationships, what a shame! I think it makes us novalties, and even more rare romantic! We didn't pay to meet our partners online and must have been sheer destiny picking them out of the crazy haystack Gumtree was! ? Maybe gumtree only did so us two could find our soulmates, and then shut the gates!

And I think was proposal was so sweet! But then again I am such a romantic I find any proposal lovely! hehe

Hi, if you are still looking for people my other half and I met at an archery club at university. A few months later he asked me out and at first I said no! However, he persevered and a few months after that I finally said yes. He asked me to marry him exactly 5 years later on a picnic in the same spot I said yes to going out with him.
