JSA Help for my brother please

Voldemort, 14 May, 2009 at 15:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

My younger brother has just quit his job (again!) but feels that he was forced into it by his manager. He'd only been there 2 months and the company approached him for the role. It was a sales position in something he's done before and been very successful at, in fact that was why he was approached by them.

However, he missed his target by <10% 2 months running and his boss's boss gave him an ultimatum of either quit or agree to be micromanaged. We persuaded him to give it another chance as he has a track record of not staying in any job too long and at 27yrs old it was looking really bad on his CV. He's had a week now of this micromanagement and is so stressed out he can't eat or sleep. He's been doing 70hr weeks for a 37hr salary and was actively encouraged not to take his lunchbreak!

Anyway, he's just quit with immediate effect and is looking to sign on. Is it the case that you can't claim if you resign? Is there anything he can do/say to override this?

Thanks in advance

Yes thats true..... if you quit you cant claim for a period of time .... unless he thinks he may have grounds for 'unfair dismissal'.

It's true that you can't just quit a job because you don't like it and you will be asked for your reasons for leaving, quite probably more than once. I believe they can also contact your ex employer to see if they agree with what you say.

I'm not quite sure what count as acceptable reasons to leave your workplace though. Ime the job centre advisors when you walk in can be very helpful and will tell you the right numbers to contact etc

I work for the jobcentre, he can claim, they will start paying and his reasons for leaving will go to a decision maker who decides if it was a good reason or not, if they decide not then jsa will stop. he will be given the chance to explain in detail to the dm (on paper) why he left, he needs to put as much info as possible, better too much info than not enough. they look at each case individually, he needs to put every detail down.

They've made changes there then. you never got any benefit until it had been assessed ( if you quit) .

But then it was over 10 years ago since i was last out of work
