Juke Box?

cornishbride2bee, 7 November, 2012 at 20:03 Posted on Planning 0 10

Ladies, what are you views on this:

Instead of a DJ having a juke box? I called one of our venues preferred suppliers for DJ's and they offer a retro style Juke Box that has EVERY UK top 40 chart hit from 1952 - present day. It is set up in the morning, and we get it all day/night. Guests can select their tunes....my question is....is this going to be fun, will guests want to go up and select songs, or would a DJ be better????

On first viewing I thought this was a great idea but then I remembered that I hate popular music and so do the majority of my guests. Numbers ones (especially from the past 20 years ) are exactly the kind of thing I want to avoid. Its a shame you can't choose the music Smiley winking But having said that, if you like popular music then I think its a great idea, much more fun than a DJ and I think people will enjoy getting to choose their own Smiley smile

There will be a flurry to begin with but the chosen songs will stack up anyway. Theres been many a time I've been in a pub and put some money in the jukebox but my tracks didn't come on till hours later because they were queued up. So with a bit off luck that would happen anyway Smiley smile

My only worry would be people going up in separate groups and selecting the same songs...so you could end up hearing the same song several times over??

I think this idea sounds great, but I think it depends on your guests. DJs don't just play music, they are quite good at ecnouraging people to get up and dance etc. and control the evening to some extent, but if you think your guests are the type to just get up and dance without much persuasion, then go for it! x

That's an awesome idea, as it gives everyone a chance to join in, chances are if they're involved with the choices they'll be more involved with the dancing! Wish I could have one now but OH has some friends who are DJs and they'd be mortified if we picked a machine over them!

I think it sounds like a great idea. I'd love to pick a song and if i'm at a wedding always have a request for the DJ. However i do agree with some of the other comments. An experienced DJ know's how to work the crowd and can also see what type of music is working well. You may get people picking different genre's and one of the guests choices could easily clear the dance floor. I think it could work but you may have to designate a person to monitor.
