Just a quick question

*Loula**, 24 March, 2013 at 09:23 Posted on Planning 0 8

Good morning all

Just emailed our venue to ask about a tasting. They replied saying this was fine but there would be a charge? Has anyone else been charged for their tasting?

I would have pressumed the ££££££££'s we are paying them a sample tasting would be free. Have already decided on starter and dessert just can't decide on main course. (It will be either chicken breast or lion of pork) Am I being a meanie lol?

I have heard of it, think it's a case of some charge for it, others don't. It most cases i've heard of it, they haven't charged full price per meal you're tasting, but a charge of £10/£15 each to taste a selection of smaller portions of what you're trying to decide on.

Our venue included a tasting of 2 entrees, 2 full sized mains & 2 desserts. We did have to buy alcohol though.

This was a question I asked when viewing venues, as I found a few that didnt include a free tasting.

We didn't have to pay for ours, but we're shelling nearly my annual salary to the venue, so I'd have been annoyed if we had to.

I've heard of lots of venues who do charge, though. I wouldn't skip the tasting, even if you have to pay for it. We went in thinking we would have chosen something completely different, but when we tasted the food we surprised ourselves!

We're paying for our tasting - £20 each i think, but that is cheaper than their usual menu and what we're paying per head on the day.

That sounds very cheeky to me! It is hard for me to comment if it is usual as we are marrying abroad so l don't know what is standard about tastings.

Ours didn't offer a tasting at all (it wasn't a hotel so was a bit different).

If I hadn't have already been to a wedding there I probably would have pushed it but as I knew the food was good I went on trust.

Whether I was annoyed about having to pay for a tasting would probably depend on how much I was spending at the venue I think! Smiley smile

    Agree.

We haven't had food at the pub we have booked but have had good reviews.

As our whole day comes in under 3K when if / we finally get around to having a meal there I would be more than happy to pay the going rate for it.

I understand this is a bit different to a tasting as I imagine that is smaller portions of each option?

We got charged but our food is being provided by a country pub that don't do many weddings, so its not a 'wedding business venue' as such.

I do think we got a slight discount though.

Oh but we didn't try little bits of different meals, we both tried a different course each for main / pudding and that was it.
