Just been watching the planets through H's telescope

I'd love a telescope, I saw Jupiter once through one, my exes dad had a big telescope and he showed us.

No chance here tonight as its way too cloudy.

We saw the Pleiades the other night and Mr Nora reackons that tomorrow just as it gets dark (about 3.45pm and for an hour and a half afterwards) you should be able to see the occultation of Venus where Venus goes behind the moon.

My H's telescope gets a lot of use. I mean - everyday. We use to keep the study door wedged open and I get to dust it .... oooooh, at least once a week.

Wow, sounds brilliant.

Im debating whether to get a telescope, but A) Wouldnt know where to start and B) I would be worried that after looking through it a few times it would sit and gather dust

OH checked out some sites/forums and it seems that Lidl have one in before Christmas each year that's great for beginners. I'm going to sit tight til January and keep an eye on e*bay - apparently quite a few turn up on there as unwanted presents for around half the price!
