No, im not thick i realsie you need rings to get married, but a friend was making them for me, but unfortunatly has to pull out of the offer. We havent budgeted for this at all, as it was going to be a wedding pressie from her, so we have to spend a very small ammount. what exactly should i be looking for? are wedding rings surrounded with tradition? We both want silver rings not gold, but that is all we have thought of!

Hi Lucy, sorry to hear bout your rings! How annoying.

How much is your budget? Are you wanting matching bride & groom rings? Does yours have to be the same type of silver metal as your engagement ring or fit in in any way?x

I don't think you have to have a special ring as such.Mine cost £27.50 from H Samuel and it is not technically a wedding ring as when I was looking all the wedding bands were 3 or 4 times more expensive and straight band types.I have an engagement ring that needs a shaped ring but all the shaped rings were the wrong shape. They had either a far too deep V shape or it was far too shallow.Himselfs ring was an Argos jobbie.Think we spent less the £70 on both.

Hi, have you thought about titanium for your husband to be's ring? OH is having one and they are really quite cheap. Only about £30-40 depending on what pattern you are having on it. Plain will likely be cheaper still.

Silver looks to be anywhere from £5 to £20 for a plain band.

If you're wanting something a bit more interesting/expensive, you could always go for something plain and cheap now and maybe on a special anniversary update them?

I don't know of any specific traditions governing the metal used sorry.

Our rings are going to be costing no more than about £150 for both. Mine is costing more as I need an 18ct yellow gold band to match my engagement ring which is looking at about £100.

    Good luck!

Well, my engagement ring is gold, but i actually dont like gold - i never would wear anything else gold at all, so i spose it should match, but then i wont like it! So, im gonna go for silver anyway. Probebly just a plain band, and i went to argos today (classy) and had a look, we could both get rings we are happy with for about #30 in total, so i guess that is what we will do!

Have you checked that wearing silver next to gold won't wear one away? Gold is quite a soft metal - might be worth checking to avoid either ring being damaged later.

Also if you're anywhere near Birmingham, the jewellery quarter is significantly cheaper and better quality than the high street because they make the jewellery there, so could be worth a try.

Also if you don't like yellow gold, you can always have white gold which looks more like silver.

Don't want to put a dampener on your budget, but surely you'd want to spend a bit more than £30 on your wedding ring that is going to last you a lifetime. I've heard of a few brides that have had to buy new rings because they went for the cheap option and ended up with a scratched/bent ring because the metal wasn't very good quality.

This is the one part of your wedding day (apart from your husband) which should be around in 60 years, so IMO I would push the boat out just a little bit further ?

WBS about checking the metals will be ok next to each other - white gold might be better than silver? Originally I was going to get a plain white gold band from this place www.bandsoflove.co.uk and they didn't seem too expensive. Also like has been said, independent jewellers are often cheaper than high street chains.

In the end I decided I was going to wear this ring for the rest of my life so I'd like something a bit more special (and a bit more expensive!). I do agree with tahdah a bit, I wasn't going to spend a lot on my ring because I didn't think it was important but then I realised that actually, apart from the photos, it's pretty much the only thing that lasts beyond the day.

Also, you don't actually need rings to get married (lots of men don't have them, for instance) but I can understand why you might want them. Having re read your original post perhaps you're right about spending a little bit now and getting something just 'for now' (but I would get the right metal) but I would be saving up to get special ones at a later date. (Mind you, my nan is on something like her 5th wedding ring - after 57 years of marriage) having lost some, had to have them cut off when she broke her wrist etc so perhaps inexpensive is the way to go!)

I know it has to last, but if the money isnt there to do it, it isnt there. I wont get the cheapest rings, but i do think you can get perfectly reasnoble rings for £30 or so....mine and dps engagements rings were around that, and almost 10 years on they both still look fab. Will deffinatly get advice from a jeweler on which are the bast and most hard wearing metals, aswel as what will be ok next to my engagement ring, then i spose i will take it from there.
